Was the clerk you last talked to the one who actually did the initial check?

If not, she probably doesn't know nor care and was just giving you an answer, any answer, to get you to go away and stop asking her questions.

I wouldn't worry.

it was the same young lady and you are probably right, she just wanted to be done with me and on to the next sale. No worries here.

Speaking as an FFL, (not in AZ) I have no access as to why someone is delayed or denied. In past experiences with NICS since the beginning, many of the delays I have had were former military or law enforcement or those with security clearances. Is that just a fluke? Maybe, but it is curious.

Don't you love it when people demand you tell them why they were delayed or denied?

When it was all done I got I got what I wanted (new to me 686-2) and I have been lied to before but it is what it is.....

Based upon my own experience it depends on the dealer, some honor the CCW others don't.

I've helped out some in my LGS. If there is anything about a purchaser, even with CCW/CHL, that rings odd, no deal.
It could be an address conflict on docs seen, someone from another town with someone sitting in the car out front, cash payment, or just that the person isn't synced with the gun. Not sure how to explain that, but its there.

But a CCW/CHL speeds things up enough that I'd keep mine active even if not absolutely required for my situation.

Last month in Aurora Il. a convicted felon was able to buy a gun after he lied on a 4473. He obtained the gun 4-5 years ago and kept it at home until last month went he took it to work and killed 5 employees and wounded 4 police officers. Much was said about why he was able to buy the gun. Illinois politicians are unbelievable when they smell a possible gun infraction. They run around squawking like penguins bumping into each other fighting over a sardine. It turns out the felony was committed in Mississippi and the info was not reported to the NICS database.
Our Fed, State and Local governments will hunt and chase you down if you owe them a nickle in back taxes but their combined forces can't maintain an accurate data base that they hold over our heads as Gospel.

Do you get any break on the transfer fee?

No but after shopping around I found a loyal FFL that only charges me $15.00

I buy a lot of firearms so we are both happy. Awaiting my Colt LWC that arrives on Thursday :D

If you really want to know why you were delayed. Follow the instructions here:

Delayed Firearm Transaction A Delayed Response Does Not Mean You Are Denied — FBI

You have to do it in writing. Be sure to include the date of the transaction and all of your personal info to expedite it.

It could be anything from a downed system, to like Miss Muggins said someone with the same name doing nefarious things and a slow down to verify you are not that person.

Let me throw this out at you. You were fingerprinted as part of your previous security clearances. As a result, you have an FBI Number. The most common reason for having an FBI Number is having a criminal history. Takes a little deeper look to determine the difference . . .

That I got delayed is not an issue for me, As I previously stated I am glad they are checking but I still call BS on the clerks statement that my background was delayed because of my previous clearance.

In Fl ,all the CCP allows you is to walk out with your pistol the same day you bought it . Overtime I buy one or have a transfer , it has to be called in . I too held Secret and Top Secret clearances and you would think that would mean something .

Last night on the scanner they were attempting to run the serial number on a S&W handgun but couldn't because NICS was down. They didn't know when it might come back. That might be what was going on.

But if you do this don't they put you on the "troublemaker"
list????

Fifty years ago, I had a Top Secret clearance. It doesn't mean diddly scat now.

Like I said previously, many of the delayed transactions I have called in were previous military, law enforcement, and security.
I ask the customer if they are one of those. The above clarifies
my previous idea.

Doesn't apply in the current topic but an FFL always has the right to refuse or delay a sale/transfer. I have done so a couple of times. Once the guy even had a permit but had recently been arrested and charged for several crimes that would disqualify him. I contacted the issuing department for his permit and it was pulled.
