I chair the Finance Committee at our local church and our pastor called me Friday evening and asked when I'd have time for us to visit and discuss funding for some summer events coming up. I invited he and his wife to come over Saturday for lunch and afterwards we could discuss business while his wife visited with Mrs. Faulkner.

After lunch, we talked business and as we finished in my home office he noticed my gun vault and we got to talking about guns, both of us being shooters. As I opened the vault to show him some of my WWII collection he said he'd never shot any of those. "Well brother," I said, "I can fix you up."

While Mrs. Faulkner, Daisy, and the pastor's wife sat on the deck I set up a bench so we could shoot a few vintage WWII arms including a M1 rifle, M1 carbine, M1903 Springfield, and a M1911A1. I got a kick out the excitement on his face as he shot the M1 rifle and he experienced his first "ping".

That is great. I also have my own range in the backyard. I know how fortunate that is. My grandson has an interest in military rifles and between him and I we can set up a pretty impressive shoot. He has an 03-A3, a Mauser, a Japanese Arisaka and a Swiss 7.5X55.A few weeks ago he brought them out and we tried them all. I have a few carbines, a Fn/Fal, an Ak and a couple Mosins. Between us I think we could come close to arming a small country.

It makes you appreciate the men that had to carry and use these heavy old hard kicking rifles. Great fun.

I just heard someone on youtube say that .45ACP is GOD's caliber

Well, if the good Lord enjoys target shooting occasionally, I would bet He's partial to 1911 semi-autos and 44 magnum revolvers . . . :)

Maybe His squad includes John Browning and Elmer Keith . . . :D
