Bad Colonoscope Experience

Its all about the Doctors. When I was in CA I had a gastro MD for my regular Dr. He was great, very intelligent, kept up on the latest stuff and was a good observant listener. He did all my colonoscopies and endoscopies over the years in his and a few other Doctors private clinic. Obama care killed that for whatever reason. I was always in a twilight sleep for the colonoscopies and even watched the screen. NEVER an issue of any type

Moved to Tx and could hardly find a DR to take me as I used painkillers (Tramadol) so I had to be a drug seeking addict. Thanks to the way some Doctors delve out the meds, those that need them and use them responsibly have to suffer. So finally found a Dr, he is nice and attentive but sometimes I leave shaking my head a bit.

So after having colonoscopies ever 3-5 years since age 50 I had to schedule one here. Found a good Dr and set it all up. Did the colonoscopy and endoscopy since I hadn't had one for a while. Did the pills instead of the gallons of liquid just like Handejector said WAAAAYYYY better. Was advised they would be putting me all the way under (understood due to the endoscopy) Afterwards I was advised no polyps or issues therebut I had something called Barretts syndrome in my esophagus due to acid reflux and would have to take antacids and watch it for the rest of my days. Good to know. Funny though next Doctor appointment I discuss it with my Dr. He tells me well you know you smoked for all those years you were a cop and that can do a lot of damage. I looked at him and told him Dr. I have never smoked or even held a cigarette or anything else in my life. Just was never my thing. He said oh I assumed you smoked because police and military guys from your time are usually smokers. Made me wonder if he read any of the stuff I wrote on the pre initial visit forms.
Funny though, like another pointed out earlier. During the endoscopy they decided I needed my esophagus stretched out. Ok, but ever since then I have been hacking up more and coughing more than ever. It is finally subsiding some after almost 6 months. Was advised that it was normal, for whatever that is worth. Just a pain getting old..

I had my 2nd colonoscopy this morning. The 1st one was 17 years ago when I was 50. No problems and no polyps. I'm lucky that there seems to be no history of colon cancer in my family.
Two years ago my Wife was getting ready to have surgery on a restricted carotid artery. They changed her blood thinner for the procedure. Once they did she found that she had internal bleeding. The Doctors found that she had colon cancer and removed 12 inches of her colon. She had absolutely no signs before then that she had colon cancer. We were truly blessed that we caught it in time.
Please don't take chances. If your Doctor suggests you should get a colonoscopy, get one.
BTW Don't trust a fart after a colonoscopy, they're sneaky :D
