Ballistol Question for M&P...

Hi all,

So in considering a new gun cleaner ( I currently use Hornady Tap One Shot ) that is non toxic, I've ordered the non aerosol version of Ballistol to clean my Shield.


To all the Ballistol users... is there a difference between the aerosol vs the non aerosol version?

If so, which do you prefer and why?

I don't think so and keep both on hand.
There are times I want the aerosol spray.
Aerosol spray is more expensive.

I've not used the aerosol. Love the non aerosol for my Shield

I use both. The aerosol for hard to reach places. Amazon or other sellers have them in various combo packs.

Be ready for the SMELL. I got used to it, but oh... man!... wasn't ready for the first whiff!

I buy the non-aerosol and I have a little pump sprayer from Amazon. Best of both worlds.

An old Windex trigger sprayer screwed right on a Ballistol liquid can. The way it smells, I wouldn't use the aerosol indoors. Unfortunately, my kitties like the smell.

Thanks a million for that tip - I was about to buy a small spray bottle but am already running low on some Windex. I'll just keep the sprayer then from the bottle.

Ballistol restored the leather in my bicycle pump.

It keeps my wallet clean

It keeps all my bakelite stuff looking like new

Great for making my mowers shine after washing (the rubber and plastic)

I bought the dual cans of non-aero on Amazon for 30 and sold one on ebay for 20. Ballistol makes me realize my feet don't smell so bad after all.

I love ballistol and don't mind the smell that much but boy, I'd never use it in a car unless that '66 is a convertible with a broken top [emoji14] or you want to ensure your SO doesn't come along for Sunday drives

For my polymer and steel pistols, I use diluted Simple Green, spray on and scrub with a toothbrush. Spray again to 'hose off' the dirt, then wipe off with a lint free cloth. I blow it out of the nooks and crannies with compressed air, and then wipe again. Gun comes out squeaky clean. Then lubricate as usual.

Its know to affect aluminum if left on, so I use it on polymer/steel only and it never sits on there for longer than it takes me to scrub and wipe.

For those who don't like the smell of Ballistol, a good alternative is Safariland's CLP (Clean Lube Protect). The smell isn't bad, it's non-toxic and as far as I know, safe on all finishes. It comes in aerosol and non-aerosol spray. I use the aerosol which foams up, which I like. I stick a wadded cleaning patch in one end of my barrel, foam the inside and then stick another wadded patch in the other end. Then I set the barrel aside to soak while I clean the rest of the slide and frame. To get my patches wet, I just turn the spray can cap upside down like a cup and then lay the patch across the opening and spray the patch. I don't use gloves and my hands don't get irritated by it.

I wonder what they think it smells like , strange that kitties would be attracted to it.
I'm no big fan of ballistol's aroma or kitty urine either.

I did the same...great solution...open the windows though the smell is awful. Makes Hoppe's #9 smell like aftershave.
