BARKING DOG PROBLEM

I live in the country and it used to be fairly quiet until a while back. The lady up the road decided that she wants to drag these dogs that nobody wants home. Also, every cat that she can find to drag to this area.
The dogs are in a pen connected to the house. The problem is they bark a bunch. They put them in the house at night, but during the day they have at it.
I have found that the only thing that stops them is a round out of a 357 or 44 mag, fired into the ground on my property.
It is getting kind of expensive, so I am looking for an alternative. I have talked to the dog owners, and they told me just to yell at them when they bark, it won't do any good but just yell at them. I suggested bark collars, but they said that it was not humane to use them.
I was thinking of a bird cannon. If I fire it when they bark, it should really help to stop them from barking.
I would like to have it so I could fire it from the house, but I cannot figure out how to do it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As I say I have talked to them several times and they want to do nothing about it. When you are trying to enjoy a peaceful day, there is nothing like the sound of crazy dogs to really ruin things.

Thanks for the replies. I have called the sheriff and the dog warden. It seems like no one wants to get into it.
I was told that I could file a law suite against them, but it will probably go no where.
The aspirins sound like a good idea, however, they have security cameras at all 4 corners of the house. I am not sure what the distance is for cameras at night. I just noticed a few weeks ago that they were installed.

Trying to be humane can be unhumane sometimes. I would contact animal control because there can be no way with all those animals are in good shape. There's probably feces everywhere. I would also call the health and human svs and let them determine living conditions.

It seems that the killer entered and left the estate grounds one night but without the guard dog barking an alarm at the intruder's presence as expected. I have used a portable air horn, like what you would find in a boat. It works and it cheaper than ammo.

Most dogs are taught the command " NO ". I had the same problem once and " NO " worked very well.

We work during the day, and we have a loud mouthed dog (Schnauzer) who LOVES to bark. Incessantly. Sometimes for no apparent reason at all. We have a neighbor whose solution is to scream at the dogs (we have another dog, but he isn't the problem). I tried explaining to her that her screaming only encouraged the dogs to bark, but apparently, our dogs are smarter than she is. It's kind of a Mexican stand-off as she hosts frequent parties, and she runs, we suspect, an illegal day care center out of her (rented) home. As a result, the authorities have not been called by either of us.

Eventually, I took the dog to the Vet to ask about canine tranquilzers, or other appropriate medicines rather than resort to a shock collar. The Vet told me that the medication he would use has been back-ordered for 2 years, so is essentially unobtainable. He said the shock collar wasn't really "cruel and unusual punishment", and said he didn't have any problems with their use. We've been using the shock collar for almost a year now without any noticeably ill effects. When we get ready to put the dogs outside (they have a fully fenced dog run) in the morning, we just put the shock collar onto Mr. Big Mouth and go on to work. The collar comes off the moment we get home, and we allow the dogs back into the house. We can tell when the battery for the shock collar is getting weak because the barking starts up as soon as he's outside in the morning.

You have a right to your peace and quiet. I'd think about having one more quiet chat with the neighbors about their dogs disturbing you, and after that, if there is no improvement, I'd start contacting the authorities to solve the problem.

Aspirin can be toxic to dogs.

My wife's little dog barks incessantly and often for no apparent reason. Although he can be set off by things like someone pulling into the drive. Not sure if it will get better or worse when we have to arrange things for my step daughter and her daughter to move in with us.

Get a tape recorder, and record the dogs going ape for hours and hours.


About 2 in the morning, turn that recording on pointed at their house.

If you use a varmint caller with the ability to play recordings, then you can set the thing off remotely from the house.


They will get the message quickly.

As to the cats. I have almost always had cats. With this said, any cat you can trap on your property should go for a swim in kitty lake.

We EACH have a RIGHT to Quiet Enjoyment of our property.
I believe that the constant barking is a tort (civil case) rather than a criminal act.
Record the barking - time stamped if possible - and SUE THEM.
I'll bet that being served will get their attention and you may not even have to go to court --- But go.

Happened to me one time, called the S.O., they came out and we had a pow wow in the patrol car. Good old boys told me that they did not say this, but if it were them(pretty much taking the law into my own hands) they would take care of this without need of law enforcement. They guy built a pen on land he just bought next to me and built a fence, dumped about 15 fox hounds and went back to his off site home to get a good nights rest, kept us up barking at the moon all night. My other neighbor (x-city cop) took care of the problem, I don't know how but they went away one night.
