barrel makers for 3rd gen pistols

OK, somewhat dead thread, but what the heck.

Last i contacted Briley they can do barrels for various SW 3RD gens. They did after all make the Briley 356TSW gun with their barrel. If they make a bushing for it, they should be able to make a barrel for it.

I asked about the 4506 and 5906 awhile back and they said they can indeed do a barrel and bushing for them, even asked about the 4006 and got the same answer. Might be worth a call to see if they will still do barrels for various calibers/models.

Keep in mind S&W 3rd gens are good guns, but nobody made alot for them. Briley is an outfit that will do nearly whatever you want. Catch is you have to be willing to pay, and worse yet wait.

I talked to claudio and they are not making any, if there was demand they could, they have the setup to do it, sa they used to do PC barrels

I checked with Claudio today. He would be willing to make MATCH GRADE barrels, oversized and need fitting. we would need to do runs of 20 each caliber.

I asked about the 5906/4006/4506/1006 as high interest items.

First run would be for 5906 or 4006, approx cost would be $200.00 per barrel. The wait would be approx 3 months, which ensures they can aquire suitable blanks and manufacture the barrels.

Anyone possibly interested? I know I would be in for at leat one in each caliber, if not more.

I would take at least 2. When I spoke to him, he said they made them in 6" and cut down to correct length, I need 5" for super 9 and 4" for 5906, I already have 2 bushing assemblies from him

Dude, that is a BEAUTIFUL pistol.

Hmm...this is interesting.

If I would have known this, I would have never gotten rid of my 5906.

Wonder if they could do a match grade barrel for a standard 6906 or 5906. (TSW)?

The barrels Briley makes are match grade for these guns. To take full advantage of these awesome barrels though, you really need to get the bushing as well, then it is a true tack driver so to speak.

We can get them, it is just a matter of getting enough people to go in on them. I know I will go for at least one 4006/5906/1006/4506 if not more. I might even stock a few just for spares I plan to have my pistols for a long time.

Count me in for one barrel for a 5906 at $200, and one for a 4566. Regards 18DAI.

Are these better than the stock Smith Barrels.

I just got a SW 5903 and the barral still looks nice.

I have posted this idea around a couple other boards. I have a business license, so I could get the barrels made in the quantities mentioned. RIght now I am workng out pricing with a coupel of well known barrels makes to make a limited run of MATCH GRADE barrels.

I am working on barrels for 5906/4006/4506, and possibly 1006 with enough interest. These barrels will be stock lengthgs only,I can't afford to have one or two made in different legths. Good news is that the 4506, and the 1006 if I do them, can be turned down by yor ginsmith to fit shorter barreled models. Fitting will be required, these are not drop in. I would recommendthe Briley buhing, adn am working on a deal to do packages too, again smithing will be your responsibility.

I am shooting for $200 or below for these barrels. We'll see about packages with bushings. Price is still pending, I will post more when I have ironed out the rest of the details.

I need to know who is interested for sure. Spread the word around, the more the merrier, and I can order more barrels therefore making it even cheaper.

I forgot to mention this but if you couldn't do a barrel for the TSW then I would be willing to buy a 910 or 915 with the legacy type barrel.

OK, looks like I have the info I need for a run of the 3rd gen barrels. Here is the scoop. IF we do this the following will be the norm. Don't get sticker shock, this is the BEST barrel system you will get for these guns, and accuracy will be top notch. Price will be $315 plus shipping.

These barrels are not for the faint of heart, they are for serious shooters that want the best they can get from their favorite S&W. When comparing the cost to a 1911 custom barrel and fitting it is not that terrible to me.

Here are the facts:

- Barrels will be from Lothar Walther stainless blanks.
- NO drop in barrels, these need to be fitted, again this is top notch stuff.
- This is a system, it will include the Briley spherical bushing, bushings require proprietary tooling to be threaded in and need to be sent to Briley for installation and fitting, part of the $315 price tag.
- Manufacture time will be roughly 3 months, still working on a timeline for getting the bushings installed, more than likely 2-3 months, Briley is pretty in demand.
- These will be standard length barrels, 3rd gen only, for one of 4 models to be determined based on interest, 5906/4006/4506/1006
- Ironing out details of the bushing barrel installs, I want to work it so all everyone has to do is ship it with a small money order for return shipping.

Here is the dealio, I am fronting the cost of the blanks out of my own pocket, so if we get a minimum 20 orders for one model I will require a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $150 to hold your place. Right now it look like it will either be a 5906 or 4506 to be produced first. All interested please speak up, this is open to anyone that wants the best you can get for these already great guns.

Pipe up with which you want first 5906 or 4506

I am having the barrels all made with the wide hood, this way they can be fitted as needed.

OK, First correction.

I am going to offer these as just the barrel and bushing kit. You still need Briley to fit the bushings into the slide.

This gives folks the option to buy the barrel kit now, and defer the installation cost till a later date, thus spreading the overal cost out a bit.

Sound good?

I saw another comment that I did not address already.

To my knowlege the barrel/bushing set should fit the TSW models just fine. The main physical difference is the rail and thicker dust cover.

Please chime in if anyone knows something I don't.
