I would try bluing first.

Presto Gun Blue Pen

I use it all the time and it works perfect on steel. I think the Super Black Pen is meant for aluminum and paint.

Golpher Slayer is right about the match up. Sometimes the color isn't exact. I should have also mentioned about the Sharpie.

Actually what I do is I start out with the bluing pen which chemically darkens the steel, almost like a basecoat if you will. I usually let it dry for a few minutes and re-apply. This helps darken the steel a bit more. You may get a brownish residue sometimes after it dries, just rub it off until the steel is black. If I need to darken it more, then I will use a Sharpie and very carefully fill in over the blemish. Sometimes the Sharpie leaves too shiny of a color and what I do is I go back over that by dabbing, not rubbing the bluing pen over the blemish again. I guess you could try the black pen as recommended also. I might just go put one in my kit as well, just because.

It is mostly trial and error depending on the exact finish you have, but my main weapons against scratches are the bluing pen and a Sharpie and going back and forth until you achieve the correct finish. I hope that helped some.

Good Luck, Dave
