BATFE ID Requirements Change?

Okay. I have purchased 4 handguns since I started this mess (none at Academy) and have had zero issues.

My name is A. John Glaser III. The first four years I was in the Corps. They could not understand having an initial for a first name. So I was John A. Glaser III. Upon my reenlistment I had enough rank for the admin chief to really listen to me and he finally straightened it out.

Long, long time ago, my grandparents immigrated from Greece. They had a son (my father, born in the USA) whom they named Euripedes, and called him "Pede" for short. When he told his first grade teacher his name was "Pede", she enrolled him as Peter. That became his legal name.

That doesn’t make it his legal name. Legal name is on your birth certificate. Unless you have a judge legally change your name. On marriages legal name can be changed without much fanfare.

Part of the reason for this is to do a proper criminal records check, and minimize the number of duplicates. When I first got my CDL (I was grandfathered), there was a regular partial match with someone from NEW whose name was the same as mine and his DOB was exactly the same except for the year.

Anyone with a common enough name can have similar experiences. About 40 years ago I was at an LE class and there was a guy who had the same name and a similar DOB as a distant relative who had a criminal record. It was an on going pain in his backside.

I know my office has filed a criminal charge on a guy whose cousin stole his ID, and we had an awful time trying to correct the record. Poor guy was in the Army at Ft. Lewis, and really had a hard time of it. Everything we can do to make sure similar things don't happen is a good investment.

Made me look ….. D/L has full middle name spelled out. Security Guard card and pistol permit have middle initial. When purchasing firearm in CT they want your D/L and pistol permit. The paperwork spells out how list your name. Never an issue here with IDs.

Makes me happy that Montana doesn't require a NCIC check if you have a Concealed Carry Permit. Background check has already been done.

Washington used to be that way, but the law was changed so our CCP doesn't mean anything when buying a gun. I guess they are thinking I might have pulled off a bank job after the back ground check for my permit. Takes ten days, more or less, to get new gun out of jail.

Another gift from "our" Attorney General, Bob Ferguson. Most people in this state have no idea who he is and what a menace he is.

Years ago, met some folks in Cali named Trentadue.
Have asked several folks, are there really folks in Italy named 32?
Or is that the result of something that happened at Ellis Island?

Well my wife's passport only has her middle initial but her DL has it spelled out. She went to get fingerprinted and they refused because her credit card has my last name and they don't take cash. The bank always uses my last name with her first and when she says that's not my legal name they say OK just sign it. So she signs her legal name and they give her attitude because it doesn't match. She explains that she used her signature, just like they used an X in the old days for the illiterate, and that signing someone else's name is not her signature. (yeah, she's a lawyer)
