Bayonet on a 15T

So I honestly dont know why, but I suddenly have this strong desire to be able to put a bayonet on my M&P 15T. Ive seen pics with them on standard M&P 15's, and it seems like a nice accessory to have, just in case... However, I have no bayonet lug. Is anyone aware of an adapter that would fit on my rail that would allow me to attach one? I have found something that clamps onto my barrel (see pic), but I dont like that idea for some reason. Any suggestions?

What storyteller posted, may be something you can use, if not then a barrel clamp on.

What is the fascination with bayonets anyway? "just in case..." of what?

If they get that close, then weapon mounted bayonet use is more likely to get the untrained using person injured or worse.

I have a Mossberg 590 military-clone shotgun. I always chuckle when I look at its bayonet lug...what a whimsical feature!

If you have a social problem that cannot be solved with 9 rounds of 00 Buck, I'm afraid a bayonet is not going to do you much good!

Yep the pistol bayonets go way back in history, I laugh at them every time I see one. Those and the "tactical" Mossberg Lever Action always make me grin. Though for some crazy reason I think I would like to have that butt ugly Mossberg. LMAO :D
 
Thanks for the suggestion Storyteller. Im not sure how/if that would mount to my rail. I dont have the typical gas block setup that models like the Sport have.

As to why... because I can :) I know its entirely impractical, and it would never really be used or useful. This is my first AR, and its been fun customizing it. So far everything I have put on it has had a practical reason. This would be purely because I want it, because I though it looked cool in some pictures I saw. I dont have the funds for it now anyway, this was more of a thought exercise, to see the creativity from others that I have seen before on other questions.
 
I hadn't looked at the 15T until today and saw that it has a free-floated forend over a low profile gas block. I was thinking it had a gas block like the OR, which is probably what your thinking the sport has, but the sport has the A2 sight/gas block with the bayonet lug.
I think if you want a bayonet then you ought to get a bayonet! I have seen some with that barrel ring thingy that you posted and it looks like your best bet at this time.
BTW, I think the guy talking about the sword was joking, but I happen to think a Samurai sword, worn Blade style, would be pretty kick***.

Reminds me of a story; Back in 1982 a neighbor, being roused from sleep, heard what he thought was someone breaking into his workshop behind his house. There had been a few rounds of juvenile vandalism in the neighborhood lately, its a reasonable thought so he is convinced its actually someone breaking in. He gets out of bed and heads through the house, along the way he grabs a Samurai sword from its case that he picked up while stationed in Japan years before, then heads out the back door towards the workshop. This is not one of those Samurai sword imitations you can buy on line or someplace, this is an actual hand crafted and forged frog-hair-splitting-sharp-if-it-even-gets-close Samurai sword. Anyway, he stalks towards the workshop in the dark, gets to a window, and sees something moving inside. He goes to the door, swings it open, and rushes in with this sword, cursing and warning and yelling, a few slashes to the surrounding air to make the point and the evil do'er takes off out the door. He pursues. The police had been called by one of the other neighbors due to the commotion that was being made. The police arrive, and in their flashlight beams see the man, in his underwear and barefoot, screaming, threatening, and slashing at a small tree about 6 feet high with his Samurai sword. All the branches had been slashed off and in the tree top clinging on for dear life swaying back and forth was this hissing and very upset racoon.

I think 3 Gun rules should change so that if you run out of ammo you can bayonet a target (for reduced points of course) and if you break your bayonet you can butt-stoke a target (for even further reduced points), AND ....... if you break your butt (no pun intended) you can bite a target for congeniality points!!! :mad:

You could just go with a muzzle brake that serves the same purpose and looks a lot better in my opinion. My sport on the bottom has got the midevil muzzle brake, and boy are those points SHARP! I had my gunsmith put it on. I handed him my rifle and brake, he went in the back room, 45 seconds later I hear "WHAT THE F***?!" he walks out with a puncture wound lol. If for some reason 30 rounds(or 60) don't work, I'm in agreeance that that won't either. But I sure do like the look.

I completely concur with the "Because I can" motto. Why are there spoilers on Honda civics? Because they can. Not everyone will agree with your choices, but that's the beauty of them having their own rifle.

Just think, you could be the first to mount a bayonet charge since Vietnam. :D
 
I figure if they get that close it's time to draw my M&P side arm... The bayonet would come in handy to keep your AR out of the muck.. Just stick it in the ground to keep the barrel drained if it was raining too. I keep my knife handle down on my tactical vest (that's for when my had gun goes empty). :o)
