From time to time, showy BBQ guns are discussed here. If one wanted to have his handgun "glorified" into a first-rate BBQ gun, which gunsmith/plater would you recommend?

What should one expect pay?

Anyone want to post a picture of their BBQ Special -- S&W or any other brand?

This STI 1911 was (Deep Releif) engraved by Wayne D'Angelo and Blued by Fords refinishing.
Grips are Elephant Ivory by Don Collins.
The old saying is..."If you have to ask,
you can't afford it".

The first picture is "In the White" (Prior to Re-Finishing).

Generally I have found you can by a gun that someone else had engraved for what the engravig only would cost you.
But there is nothing like planningg and having your own "One-of-a-Kind" engraved!!

Not only a BBQ gun... but tux is required! Ivory looks better with the bowtie.

Feel free to spend whatever you want...you get what you pay for!

beautiful guns, dare i ask how much it would cost to engrave, say a 686 4inch.I've always wantwed to have mine done.

There are so many craftsmen out there that it's almost impossible to put a price on your question. Depends on the skill of the engraver, what type of coverage you want to have, etc. I've been told that stainless is much harder to engrave than carbon steel.

I suggest you do a search of engraved guns here on the forum, select a style you like (there are many) and then contact a few artists for an estimate.

I personally think D'Angelo does fantastic work and have admired his pieces for years.

Another site you might want to visit is www.engravingforum.com/. They have been very helpful to me on many inquiries. They also seem to be able to recognize each others work by sight, should you find a style you like and do not know the artist.

You'll never regret getting a nice engraved gun...it's a personal thing.

Generally speaking..Deep Releif engraving is twice the price of a standard engrave job.
This one I had S&W factory Class A engraved. It is a beautiful job and finely cut.

what does the term "BBQ gun" mean? Not sure I have heard that term before......

Back to my original question:

What gunsmith or plater would you use to refinish a BBQ gun with gold and nickle plating?
