I have never seen the movie "A Man Called Trinity". But I did see a scene on YT where Terence Hill goes into cantina and orders a plate of beans and eats them without mercy or pity. As a Texan, I find this scene shows the proper way to eat beans...but why is it every time I watch this scene and the campfire scene from "Blazing Saddles" I get an insatiable urge for beans? After seeing the numerous videos on making cowboy beans, this only makes matters worse. I'm I the only person that feels this way?

My late mother made wonderful baked beans. After she died, I decided I would keep up the tradition. We had a small family gathering years ago with my dad and I in attendance. I had made a pot of baked beans for the event. Before the formal sitdown Pop decided to check out my beans. When he pronounced that they tasted just like my mother's I knew I had succeeded.

Our friend down the street makes his own recipe and uses lots and lots of pulled baby back rib meat in it. They are actually a meal all by themselves and the best beans I have ever had in my life. That sort of spoiled us and kind of put a damper on eating just a plain can of Bush's Beans.

Once a year or so I will open up a can of Bush's Beans and enjoy them with eggs and bacon for breakfast. When my friend comes over for a BBQ and asks what to bring - I always tell him, "you know - the beans"! He always has a few jars in stock - lol.

I like beans. Ever since we got a Quick Pot, making beans from scratch is preferred over the canned variety. Gonna make up a batch today to have with smoker grilled chicken and corn on the cob.

I eat rice and beans almost every day, I crock-pot them about every 10 day's and
eat them until gone. I use one cup each of black, red, and kidney beans, brown rice
three sliced tomatoes, chili powder, half cup of olive oil, pepper, 1 can tomato paste
and some Hala Pena peppers.
Crock pot them on hi for three hours and low for nine hours. Great as a side dish
or main course. Farting is not optional. ;)

How does one eat beans without mercy or pity?

I love various beans, but not all beans. Leaving that aside, when I open a can of beans, black beans, plain or spicy, barbecue beans, etc., quite a few will make it onto a spoon right out of the can. I might not open a can of beans for months but, when I do, it doesn't last long!!!! ;)

We have a place near us called Natty Flats BBQ. They have pinto beans in a sauce, not bbq, and they throw all the bits of left over brisket in them and mix it up. It doesnt have a chili taste is different but really good. I can't wait for colder weather for a good bunch of navy beans and ham.

Wow, that looks really good.

I pretty much like all beans...cooked in a pot with a piece of side meat or smoked pork. Red Beans and rice with some smoked pork .Homemade bread or a good dark rye is good. One of my favorites though was a big ol pot of early june peas...the little bullets that took more'n a day to cook. ...little ham hock with a pound of butter in it and some dumplings done at the last. My mother was not a great cook...didn't have time for it what with working all the time.. but she sure could cook them peas....Black-eyed peas cooked the same way are fairly easy to eat too...then the almost decent fordhook limas cooked up with fresh corn off the cob...cooked up together with butter and a good pan of cornbread...throw a few pieces of bacon in for flavoring

My Beans story. My late ex-FIL Had a big commercial smoker that held 60# of hanging loin back ribs. Seasoned the ribs with garlic, celery salt and rubbed with brown sugar. Put a gallon pot of regular VanCamps beans under the ribs so as the ribs cooked the drippings seasoned the beans. Now I use Bushes original baked beans drain off some of the liquid, add garlic powder, celery salt, brown sugar and some liquid smoke. Slow cook in crockpot. Always a big hit at a potluck. I have some in the fridge right now so will be having some for supper.

Visiting Puerto Rico this past summer got me having more beans with rice. They like a reddish bean but I love black beans with rice. Baked beans work great too. I can add meat to them but I am never calling that chile.

I made a big pot a couple of days ago and a loaf of crusty homemade bread to go with it. While I was waiting for the bread to finish in the oven, I poked around on the forum, switched to Gunbroker and bought a Model of 1950 Target .44 I didn't need.

I found a place that does various types of field corn for hominy, tortillas, etc. The have a selection of beans, and the ones we have tried have been really good.

Great with fresh baked buttermilk biscuits!

Some canned beans are NOT DESIRED by many of the needy.

Our Food Pantry's Blessing Box is often fully stocked with many cans of :
1) Vegetarian Beans (some have navy beans - some have white beans)
The Vegetarian Beans have flavored sauce - not just plain beans.
2) Garbanzo Beans (AKA Chickpeas)

These beans are usually donated to the Blessing Box within a few days of a distribution of commodity boxes or baskets to those with needs.

For curiosity the staff selected one can of each of the three most prevalent brands of Vegetarian Beans for taste testing.

BRE - Beans Rejected by Everyone
Qualities and flavors of the individual beans were acceptable.
Flavors of the sauces (seasonings) was weak.

I take a couple of cans of Bush's baked beans and one can of Black beans and put them in a blue enameled pot in the electric smoker about 2 to 4 hours. Add chopped jalapeños when serving. Sliced sausage is an option

I like Red Beans , cooked down slowly ...
with smoked ham hocks, lots of onion , celery , bell pepper and garlic ...
Serve over White Rice .
The recipe is on the back of the Camelia Bean package ...
For the best ... you gots to use Camelia brand dried beans...
My Momma said so and she knows beans !
