Been a number of years since I last used a Zippo...

One has to have the zippo date code sheet. The assorted marks on the bottom give a year of mfg. Have a stone Mint flat black WWII one thats really hard to find now.

In the past I suffered from Zippo Leg.

I keep a Bic handy.

Same here, but instead of switching brands I upgraded to gas :D

I still have two plus my JON-E handwarmer. Stopped smoking in 1977 but kept the zippo's. Hard finding flints nowadays.

Post WW2 or Korea Zippo

I have a bring back Zippo from either post WW2 or the Korean War. Brought back by a favorite uncle. It was 'engraved' but there wasn't anything proper about the engraved image. Although it was brought back home by a young soldier who had gone to see the elephant and brought it back home for maybe some comic relief, it probably would have been considered by many to be kinda 'vulgar'.

I miss Uncle Cub.

What is Zippo leg?

The Zippo uses a felt pad in the reservoir to hold lighter fluid. You open the top, pull the lighter insert out and add 3, and only 3 squirts of lighter fluid into the felt before putting the insert back into the case. Any more than that and it will run out of the case and onto everything around it. If you happen to carry your Zippo in a pocket, like I did, you will get a painful rash/burn from the leaked lighter fluid. You will have to take off you pants and shorts and wash them to get the fluid out. Just taking the lighter out of your pocket will not stop the residue from continuing to burn your skin.

I have a couple Zippo's.

I replaced the internals before I used them with Thunderbird butane inserts.

I can see the fuel level through the transparent chamber and if I don't use them for a while, the butane stays in them, unlike the lighter fluid in the standard Zippo insert.

Good thing about these is they are made to last. I will have them as long as I want them without worry of wear or tear.

I'm going up to northern PA for a cousin's wedding. I suddenly realized that Bradford, PA is in the next county. So I plan to go to the Zippo/Case Museum and Flagship Store while I'm up that way.

I have been flicking my BIC for over 4 decades. While I fully embrace and welcome technology, using a cellphone light at a concert doesn't quite capture the moment like a BIC does.

À Zippo with the wick pulled out a little extra is the flame of flames.

I have 40 or so Zippos. I quit smoking for good. I've got both of my Dad's Zippos I sent them back to Zippo and they put a new hinge on one and new inside in both. Pipes smokers wear them out quicker,
