20 years ago I came across a 2.5" 586 for $350 and bought it, sold it shortly there after for $700 and thought I did pretty good, been looking for another one since. Fast forward 20 years, I walk into my LGS and there it is, well almost, a 586-4 with a 3 inch barrel, couldn't get my wallet out fast enough especially for the price marked. No box, came with Uncle Mike's on it, I put the Culinas on it that I had, my patience paid off.

Well it was marked $975 but when I went to pay the owner said I'm charging you $875 plus tax, I've bought a lot from in the past and he treats me well.

$875
You're under arrest!
You have the right to… send it to me…

That's a screaming deal. Seller must have not known what he had.

He only deals with used guns and he always has a nice selection of Smiths, Colts and Rugers, but he is typically not inexpensive, I was surprised to this one priced as it was, once in a while you get lucky.

Pretty impressive to see that in the wild. I'm a little jealous….by a little I mean very.

Very Nice! I have a 3" 66-2, 686 CS-1 and a 696. Love the 3" guns for the slightly longer barrel, sight radius and full length ejector rod. I'll take a 3" any day over a 2.5". Extremely good deal as well.

Grail gun

Saw one of these on GB a few years ago. Bid as high as I ever bid on a gun. I think I quit at $2,400. Felt like the guy I was bidding against had no ceiling. So I let it go. Man that is a Great Buy.

You did good at that price, I wouldn't sell mine for 4X that amount.... I think..... well maybe :D

I looked all my collecting career for a 2.5 586 and the 3". I had never seen one of them in the wild until a forum member was kind enough to sell me his 2.5 with box papers etc. at a reasonable price which was well above what you paid.

That is one rare gun and a beauty. I ordered a set of Culinas for mine as well.

Nice score and a smoking deal. Make sure that gun is tagged so people know what the heck it is and it's value. There are folks who would have paid close to triple what you did. You can get more money, but you can't find 3" 586's.

Very nice Model 586! For that extra 1/2 inch of barrel, you get a full-length ejector rod and I think that is a really good thing.

A 3" is always nice to have, especially in .357 or .44 caliber. Congratulations on a nice find. I'll have to keep looking for mine.

You had to settle??!! Thats like saying I wanted a younger girlfiend and I had to settle for Taylor Swift.

VERY NICE! What a great find. And a great price. I have a 3" 686-3 and carry it more than any other gun. It's been my go-to for nearly 3 years now. I just prefer revolvers and the 3" 686 is perfection imho. I much prefer the 3" over the 2.5" because it just seems to balance better, has the full-length ejector rod and it LOOKS better in 3".

Some advice my wise old Daddy gave me when I was just starting to hunt and shoot ...
" Boy ... Never sell a gun you like ... chances are you will long regret it . "
As usual he was right ... that quick money you make on a deal brings very little joy and is soon gone ... then the regrets set in and last forever !
