Have 22 hrs. in stripping, cleaning, sanding and applying.

Over cedar for Mfr's. spec per sq ft. Bought one five and two gallons. Two coats later, beautiful and I still have 1/3 of the 5 gal. and the two unopened gals. UNRETURNABLE. I can use the bucket on the fence but 70 bucks of two gals.

Temps and humidity fine. Dry time quick. Just an FYI. This stuff is more like textured paint and you do not need to use as much as they say.

Rant OFF>

They are probably figuring using a heavy nap roller. That way the sell more deckover. But, you may want to hang onto it for a re-ply in a couple years.

Well I'm reading 75 sq. ft. per gal. That works out to about 6 to 7 mils thick per coat. Since they won't state the solids content in the product data sheet I have to belive this is for when it's dry. You can figure how thick to put it on by solids content, if it's 50% you know to put it on at 12 to 14 mils wet, half of it is going to evaporate. You can get a wet mil gauge at any reputable, commercial paint store, it's just a stamped piece of metal so it ain't $50. Can't go wrong with that method if your sq. ft measurement is correct.

How many square feet is your deck. If it's around 260-265 you put it on too thin.

You probably could have bought a comparable product at company paint store for less. Retail outlets like Sherwin Williams and big boxes like Home Depot prey on homeowners and DIYers.

We put it on our decks last year and holding up good so far. We had some left over too I'm saving for next time.
I have to admit the commercial is what sold me on it and not knowing any better bought their product. Probably are products just as good I don't know about.

I've had great experience with Behr products, inside and outside, and found them to be a good value. Many, many gallons of paints and stains used in/on two different houses.

I am trying it myself. I could not get it to roll on, it would just keep rolling up thicker on the roller and not come off. I ended up brush painting and it took forever. I only managed to get the railing done and took a whole day. I also had to brush it on right out of the can, if I poured into a paint tray it would dry in the tray after a while.

If you prepped properly for 22 hours, you could have put on $4 gallon paint and might have covered well. I think the selling point of this product is that it covers well. As in zero prep and lay it on thick. Sweep off the dead bugs and empty beer cans and start rolling.

I am a frugal Scots-Irishman. I waste not. Put on with the med. nap they advised. Maybe it's the 1/8" gaps between the deck boards? Maybe my ruler is wrong. Maybe they want you to buy more than you need and their spec. advise is over-estimated. And I was told that was for two coats. Just dummy me I guess.

It's my personal experience. Whats yours sheepdawg?

40 years in the paint business. 30 with the same company, District Manager, still there. Three years as a painter, I wrote a world of specifications for The City of Memphis, two local school boards, large, well known companies, property managers, hospitals, prisons, as well as a few local home builders. I run complaints for the company I work for.

Chill my friend. I only asked about your personal experience with the product. I'm guessing you have none.
I'll post my "resume" later.:D Chill. It's not the end of time and life as we know it. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
You can quote Mfg's. Specs. It's what you do with what they say you can do. Be at peace!

You started the thread complaining about Behr and no I wouldn't use a Behr product to paint a doghouse so again no, I haven't used the product. Many companies make a similar product, we sell one made by Rustoleum so I don't need to have put Behr on. I do know enough about putting high build products to know it's going to be pretty hard following Behr's directions to perfection and if you don't follow Behr's directions, bye bye warranty. :p I bet the guys at Behr central are writing down all this right now. Used 3 gallons on a 13 gal job.

Sounds like Behr had a reason for making a product that was darn near impossible to apply per spec.

They even publish their solids content.
