Just got my internet back after lunch today. Been without for 5 days except for a few minutes yesterday. One tree in back lost a main branch but everything else fine around the house. Unfortunately, Mom had a seizure and dislocated her jaw Tuesday morning. She is still in the hospital after a couple procedures to get it back in place. They had to install screws and wires to hold it in long enough for her ligaments to heal since it was about to pop loose again. Not sure when she might be coming home. She may be too weak for me to take care of by myself and could need either some time in a skilled nursing rehab facility or possible may have to think about a nursing home. It has not been a good week, for sure.

John, sorry to hear about your mother's issues. I am hoping she heals quickly. Now I'm gonna say something you already know. You can't do it all by yourself, much as you'd like to. There comes a time where people need too much care for just one person. Just remember, if you have to put her in a home, that is caring on your part, not a failure. One of the hardest things I have had to deal with. John, you're a good man. I trust you to make the best decision for you and your mother. Peace and health to both of you.

P.S. I'm not saying you have the same feelings as I did, but if you do, it sure feels better to have someone say you're doing things right. You are.

It's been rough around here. I feel for those that still don't have power. We went out at 6:30 AM Monday and it was out until 1:00 PM Wednesday.

Our kids both live out around Pecan Grove and West Bellfort/Harlem. The eye passed over them. You being a bit east of that I would have thought you got hit pretty bad.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. It reminds me of my Mother-in-law who had some serious medical issues in the middle of Harvey and nobody could get to her. Not even an ambulance. Not good times. Difficult decisions.

Beryl still had a little kick when coming through our area. My rain gauge showed 8 inches of rain in only about six hours and we had some pretty heavy winds. Fortunately, we didn't loose power or sustain any wind damage.

Fingers crossed for you and your mum, John.

Read that the remains of Beryl created bad flooding in Vermont and two people were killed. Crazy stuff.

My nexr-door neighbour is originally from VT and told me the same this evening. "docmurgw"(sp?) is from VT. Hope he's OK.

And more than 100 mm (4") of rain fell in just a few hours as remnants of Beryl swept through Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. A young boy who was playing with friends was swept into a water-filled ditch snd drowned.

Glad that you are ok, sorry to hear about your Mom.

My power was out for four days. One of our crepe myrtles in the backyard blew over and there was a lot to clean up, had to clean everything out of the refrigerator and freezers and start new. All our Houston manufacturing facilities and offices were without power so no work during that time, most was restored by Friday. My backup power systems didn't work as well as I had hoped so need to do some rethinking there.

I will be glad when I retire and can leave the Houston area, I hope that is before a category 3 - 5 hurricane hits here

With today's grocery prices, a backup generator is a lot cheaper than refilling the frig.
