I was cleaning my 1911s tonight and, after successfully freeing my Herrett's D45 grips from a stuck grip screw/bushing (thanks to the member who PM'd me a tip), I decided to see which grips would work best for each gun. Inspired by bracebeemer's SAA grip thread, I thought I'd try a poll to see what y'all think are the best looking grips.

I'm going to do two threads, this one for my Government Model and another for my Gold Cup.

Here are the options:

Colt Government Model with Colt grips:

Colt Government Model with Herrett's D45 grips:

Colt Government Model with Hogue double-diamond checkered cocobolo grips:

Best grips is a rather non-specific descriptor...in terms of looks then Stag or Buffalo horn IMO.
For function I'd have to vote for Pachmayrs. Since my 1911's are not my primary carry item I go with well done faux stag along with a front strap non-slip rubber piece that wraps the front strap on the frame to just under the grip panels. This gives a good grip along with a nice Stag look. Just my opinion.
But for what it's worth I voted for the Hogues.

Best grips is a rather non-specific descriptor.

That's a good point. I'm more interested in appearance among the three sets of grips as I like the way they all handle.

Thanks for your input.

I voted for the Herretts over the Colt only because of the gold medallion...if it was silver I would have voted Colt....but the double diamond looked great also....

I put Herretts on my first 1911 over thirty years ago and never changed them. In fact the my attention was drawn to the last Colt 1911 I acquired because of the Herretts it was wearing.

I have several for My 1911’s from Factory To G10’s and Custom. Some Buckeye Burls. I like the Top Factory Grips with Medallions on Your Colt.

To me. Anything that mimics the old US GI 1911 double diamond patern.

Edit. It's the same GC, but in the photo above it has an Arthur Ciener .22 conversion on it.
