I have a 340 in 357 mag. I bought it after selling my 640 and knowing I needed a J frame 357 back in my stable.

I shot my 640 about 50/50 38 & 357. I generally carried 38 +p or 357 mag. This was 15 yrs ago. I shot a 340 at the time and really thought it was great…..with 357’s. I had the rubber uncle mikes boot grips at the time.

In my old age, I feel like I will want the most recoil reduction I can get from the grips. I haven’t shot it yet. That will happen after some warranty repair.

So, should I get some Pachmyrs or what else is recommended?

Barami's work best for me, but for a different reason. They give me many options for concealment and ease of use. A gun has to be right there now. It also has to be hidden. Clip grips do those things for me.
There are better grips for target shooting but this ain't a target gun. It's a SHTF gun.

I would be embarrassed to admit how many J frame grips I have bought over the years to try and tame the recoil of .357. My final solution was to go to the very concealable Hogue extreme series G10 and stick to .38+P.

Same here, only I went with VZ G10

The Compacs recommended by 629shooter work well for reducing felt recoil. Another good option is the Uncle Mike's Combat's (shown in pic). A lot of the grips I see recommended are nice grips but will do nothing to reduce felt recoil. In fact, a couple of them may do just the opposite. I preferr the Uncle Mike's because in addition to mitigating felt recoil they give a very good grip without increasing the outline when concealed.

I’m thinking I might try these depending on how I like the factory grips.[ame]https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018EXSXS/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1[/ame]

The Ergo Delta grips are amazing. I have them on all my round butt Js, including the 640P EDC.

I shot the J snubs with Pachy Compacs for years, but once I shot a friend's 442 with the Ergos I went straight home, ordered multiple sets from Midway and had them all swapped out 3 days later.

They are a hand filling grip that make the Js both comfortable and manageable with heavy loads. Since the additional material is between the back of the trigger guard and the grip frame, similar to the old school Tyler grip adapters, they don't detract from concealability. Mine works great from a Desantis pocket holster.

After 5 or 6 cylinders I became accustomed to the grip angle. Rounds on target group about the same but I took almost 2 seconds off a 5 shot string.

Highly recommend the Pachmayr Compac. They wrap completely around the grip and are hand filling. They may not look as svelte as other grips, but if you want recoil reduction, these are the best grips out there; IMHO!

I have a set that I purchased 2 J frames ago. If my arthritic hands get worse in the future and I go back to a J frame, these grips will go on it. I’ve sold my last two j frames but kept these grips just in case.

In similar threads people complained about the looks of the Delta grips. My reply was that I don't expect people to be looking in my pocket at my 642 and if I have to draw it the last thing anyone is going to look at is the grips.

The only downside is that the grips make it a bit harder to draw from my Mika pocket holster. I've never asked if he makes a version cut out for them, so I don't know if it exists.

I have a M&P340 now that is my EDC. I got it used and it came with the crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips, which have the little pocket in back that really helps recoil even with 357 magnum ammo. They don't make it a pleasant shooter for shooting a lot of magnum rounds. However they do make it much more tolerable too practice with to me anyway. They also make the newer LG-350 ones that also have rubber on the back and front for recoil reduction, they can be had with red or green laser.

For non laser equiped grips the pachmayr compac grips work great too. So do the hoghe tamer grips, although they are narrower and slightly longer than the pachmayr compac grips. I e pocket carries with both of these grips if that's a concern for how you may want to carry your 340.

The CT 405 grips are the ones pictured on my gun to give you an idea. Hope this helps.

Pistol grips, especially for a very small gun, are an immensely personal thing. What fits my hand well may fit your hand poorly. You may have to try 2 or 3 before you hit the sweet spot.

I'll echo what Robert said.

My favorite for a Centennial, after trying many, is Karl Nill's J-frame grip specifically for Centennial revolvers. Like the Hogue Centennial "Tamer," the grip goes to the top of the back strap. Most fall at least a half inch short of the full back strap (like the Altamonts on the Lady Smith in the center position in the first photo).

Spend a little money, keep trying till you find the grips that work for you.
