Depends.

Do you need any purchase decision assistance or do you know exactly what you need?

Do you want followup assistance to be available?

Try Gunbroker.com or ArmsList.com. You can avoid paying taxes that way. You'll have to pay shipping, but you can get great deals. Otherwise, the normal sites, Midway, CheaperThanDirt, CenterFireSystems, etc...

wow, didn't give us much to work with!

are you talking about a certain brand?
revolver or semi automatic?
LEO discount or not?
what state are you in?(makes a difference in some states)
what caliber do you want?
CCW or not?
used or new?

and i could go on.

I must agree that Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore overall consistantly has the best prices on firearms.

Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore---Bought two guns from them..one was my Shield..great price...free shipping.

Might be a stupid question:

I have never bought a gun on the internet. There is a 9mm compact at sportsmans that has my name on it. Is there anything special you have to do to ship it to Texas.

thanks

Yes, it's easy, but it will take a little work on your part.

First you must have/find an FFL who will accept the gun for you. You must obtain a copy of his license. A reputable FFL won't have any issue giving you a copy of his license. Then you fax or email that to the place selling the gun you want. Pay the store and they ship it to your local FFL. Then, once the gun arrives, you just fill out the paperwork at your local FFL and take the gun home.

Progolfer,
In Dallas the best FTF place is GT Distrobutors. Its a Police Supply house with a great new and used gun selection. They sell online as well. They also have stores in Austin and in Georgia. They offer great LE discounts but great prices to the public too.

Their Police pistol trade ins on glocks, sigs, etc. are fantastic. They often have trade in ARs and shotguns too. Best ammo supply and selection there in Dallas as well.

What's a typical LE discount? Active/retired? I didn't realize such discounts existed. I seem to recall some letterhead deals back in the day from manufacturers, Sig maybe?

If you look at the state he is from, he does not have the option of purchasing off of the internet. In Jersey for each handgun you want to purchase you have to go to the local police department and fill out paperwork to get permission to purchase 1 handgun, then that all has to get approved if I remember correctly by the State Police once you get the paperwork back which I think was 30-45 days you can go pick up your gun. If you buy it and have it shipped to the dealer and your paperwork comes back dis approved, your kinda screwed. Now you could get all the paper work done and have it ready then buy it off the internet. This is the 3rd toughest state to buy a pistol; in and they are trying right now to put even more restrictions on them. For long guns they have to have a FOID, and I think theres a limitation on how many they can buy in a certain period of time.

First, I'd look at Bud's Gun Shop, then Gunbroker.com.
But some sellers specialize in certain guns. So keep looking around.
Research is half the fun, IMO.
Lately, Bud's has been sold out of everything I want, so GB is better. Keep looking, don't get caught in a bidding war, there's always another one. Don't think in terms of "win or lose". Think "Buy".
Also, look to Davidson's Gun Genie. They carry a lot of brands, specialize in Ruger.

1Fly: WOW! That puts a crimp in buying. I love Florida/Texas.

Wow, and people talk about how bad CA is, this is worse. 30 days to buy a gun? AND, you have to get permission from the state to do it?
