Best TV shows of all time.

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, many several times. Thanks to all the digital TV channels I'm able to watch many of my favorite old shows. Among my absolute favorites:

Barney Miller
Newhart
Night Court
Crime Story
Magnum PI
Homicide
Numbers
Zane Grey Theatre
Laramie
SCTV

SCTV was way better than SNL. A tremendous cast and great writing created some very funny TV. Their parody of "The Godfather" was priceless, as was "Ben Hur". Probably my favorite show.

There were also a lot of great shows from across the pond. Anything that ran on Mystery, especially when Vincent Price was host, was excellent. The Britcoms are classics also. Some of my favorites from our British friends:

Are You Being Served
Sherlock Holmes (with Jeremy Brett)
Miss Marple (with Joan Hickson)
Reilly: Ace of Spies
Father Ted
Last of the Summer Wine

Bosch
Midsummer Murders
Jack Irish
Justified
Endeavor
Gunsmoke (the half hour ones not the one hour ones)
JAG
Etugrual: Resurrection (my Turkish is improving)
Inspector Lewis
Blue Heelers

I'm trying to be objective as it's still running, but BCS has a leg up on Breaking Bad in my book. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if it was a stand-alone show, but the character development is tremendous.

I think it's the same crew on both shows. Brilliant writing.

I don't just 'like' these...

There are a lot more movies I could say that I 'liked' but I think that these are tops in all aspects of what good TV should be.

Kung Fu
The Twilight Zone
The Outer Limits
Star Trek
Alfred Hitchcock
Gunsmoke
Southpark
Green Acres
All in the Family
House
NCiS
Family Guy
Columbo
The Flintstones
Saturday Night Live
Andy Griffith
I love Lucy
,
Honorable Mentions - "Monty Python" and ''Danger UXB". 'Fawlty Towers' I Claudius. I just didn't catch on to these until much later.

GOT #1

I think Game of Thrones has got to be the best fantasy/adventure TV show ever! I love it though I admit I sometimes cover my eyes when the Whitewalkers are on. The original Twin Peaks a second (have not seen the HBO revival). X-files was great too. I tried to watch the new ones but kept falling asleep.

For comedy, Fawlty Towers was hilarious but I don't think anything could top Seinfeld for laughs every episode. Frasier was pretty funny as well.

Homeland is a great drama as is The Vikings. PBS does have a lot of great shows too, so I am with BigWheelZip on Masterpiece. Downton Abbey was a good drama and I really like Indian Summers too.

Several good mentions so far. I nominate "20th Century with Walter Cronkite" from the 1950's. I looked forward to that program every week. More recently it would be "Deadwood".

1. Laugh-In
2. Night Court
3. Have Gun Will Travel
4. Hee-Haw
5. Red Skelton
6. Barney Miller
7. Hill Street Blues
8. Rawhide
9. Dragnet
10. St. Nite Wrestling.( Verne gagne, The Crusher, Dick The Bruiser, ETC. Only time I got to stay up late.

No necessarily one of my favorites but how many of you remember the show "You Are There?" It took you back to notable historical events and play them out for the audience.

Have gun will travel(ditto) I just purchased these on DVD. I purchase the old tv shows on DVD. I'd rather watch those than the garbage on tv nowadays.
