Best Way to Carry More Rounds for CCW??

Best way to carry more EDC ammo, is to carry it in the gun. So ditch the revolver, and get something like a G19 or M&P9c.

My G19 carries three times the load that the j frame has. Thugs nowadays tend to travel in packs, and there's always the possibility of an active shooter.

Your little revolver will run dry in seconds, and while you're fumbling with a "speed" loader or "speed" straps, you'll get killed.

Whereas my G19 will be laying down a steady stream of fire, with 17 more in the spare mag.

It's 2021. Let's arm ourselves for the times.

This actually isn't an answer. Even when carrying a double stack 9mm, I have a second magazine. That's because the magazine is the weakest link of the chain in semi-auto reliability. When you're standing there with a magazine-related stoppage, you better have a second mag to get the gun running again.

Also, studies show that the average gunfight for a civilian is three rounds. I know no one wants to rely on averages, but it's still significant enough to point out.

When I carry a J-frame, it's my 940. I carry two spare moon clips in my pocket. I never understood how fast a reload with moon clips are until I did it. It rivals a magazine reload with a semiauto.

I'll throw in my vote for speed strips in pocket. I carry OWB so the belt pouch just tucks in right in front of the holster. I carry a desantis 2x2x2 but also have the desantis split six. Speed loaders in center console.
For those above who try and steer you away from revolver….. shoot train and carry what you are comfortable with. Revolvers don't stovepipe, fail to feed or eject, suffer from lack of lube or have magazine issues. If revolver does not go bang simply pull the trigger again. Just my opinion. I am speaking from the experience of being a police & security firearms Instructor since the mid 80s. If a new shooter asks me what should they get for their first gun I tell them a quality .22 revolver. For first carry gun I recommend a 642 type revolver with plenty of practice. Again just my opinion.

ding - ding , Univibe hit the nail on the head.
I respect the old school mentality and the obvious replies of "i am more comfortable w my wheel gun"....

I recently passed the 60 years of age mark, and have adapted to the times. if a better tool is available, I'm gonna use it.

I guess the OP just wanted to know a good way to carry extra ammo for his revolver. For me, when I carry a revolver, I carry at least 1 speed strip and 1 speedloader. What clothing I'm wearing determines where. I am of a size that I can usually carry a speedloader in my front right pocket and get away with it. In winter, the outer coat pocket. In summer or when circumstance dictates, I have a few nylon dump pouches that i carry on the belt with polo shirt over it.
I was raised and trained on speedloaders and loading loose rounds into revolvers so I am very comfortable with it. In retired life I am not so much concerned with loading IN a gunfight as I am AFTER a gunfight.

I want something in the gun for the time I am waiting for help. Which in some places is now a little longer, a lot longer in others. I hope my suggestions are helpful.

Wouldn't work so well for K frames, but if you carry and AirWeight J frame, one way to carry a reload is to carry another J frame.

I carry a 340PD with 5 rounds, but also have a 431PD with 6 rounds of 32 h&r Magnum. Both together only weigh about 25 oz.

Besides the ways already mentioned,
I like to carry 38 Special Rounds in a Memory Card Case.
Here's the mighty 642 Car Gun with 13 rounds in the zipper case.

My two times of needing my CCW; first was in a men's room and the second was out in a parking lot. I Pocket carry a 49 no dash. Both times when my hand went into the pocket, the bad guys fled before my gun ever came out. So all my reloading and BUGing, and reloads are in theory. So far reality required no ammo, just having a pocket. To keep my luck from running out, in 10 years I haven't returned to those locations!

Louis Wetzel renowned Indian Fighter and forefather of mine use to carry balls for his rifle in his mouth. Still a good no frills way to carry reloads as long as a buddy don't slap you on the back. Even if he does it will pass.

A couple of Speed Strips and a couple of Speed Loaders cover all my revolver needs. I adjust for the situation, but always at least one Speed Strip. For hunting revolvers I have a couple of the Ammo Wallet type plastic cases.

If I honestly felt that I needed to carry as much ordinance as some do I think I would just consider moving first. I know I will get attacked for saying that but it's true. I personally believe that all too many gun owners somehow picture themselves defending democracy in a prolonged firefight. If you have time to fire off 20 or so rounds then you probably had enough time to just go somewhere else. Remember, the goal is simply to protect yourself and your family. Not to defeat the bad guys. If you rattle off a 17 round magazine, where did all those extra rounds go. Remember that you are absolutely responsible for every single round you put downrange. Remember it's self defense, not a drive by.

Entirely plausible scenario: What if you're broke down on a two lane road, changing a tire, and a car pulls up past you and stops. Three guys get out; two are carrying Glocks, one has a shotgun.

Poster a bit above says his car gun is a revolver. Against the gang, you're basically unarmed--you have to decide if your gun is a help or a liability.

Not me. In that scenario, I have a Sub 2000 with a couple of thirties to supplement my G17. I can jump into a ditch, take up a defensive position, and "defeat" the gang via superior firepower.
