I give you the new and available Galloway Precision guide rod with spring for the BG 2.0. I believe this closes the gap in the trouble with the OEM S&W guide rod and spring.

Mine should be here on Friday - I chose the black finish. Price is $32.50.

Note: No affiliation with Galloway Precision at all - just a customer.

Recently purchased M&P Competitor. So far very disappointed. For many years have utilized a load of 124G copper plated RN over 4.0 G of Titegroup. this load is .1g under max. has operated well in G17L, G17C, 19C & G34 for >0 years. Experiencing FTF ~10% of the time in different mags. Also trigger is very "gritty" and heavy after !400 rounds. Call S&W today to no avail. Will go to local store this afternoon to purchase some 115G jacketed to try. Suggested couses of action are appreciated.

Ordered the same one. Should be here tomorrow

Please post here after using the new guide rod. Looking for your impressions. Thanks.

This is in no way to discourage anyone from buying the Galloway guided rod.

I am curious if anyone else experienced the slide not seating fully forward with the Galloway guide rod?

As I posted in another thread, unfortunately, I did not like the Galloway guide rod. I ordered the SS and -10. It fit nicely and looked very high quality, but it caused an issue with the slide seating completely forward when manually manipulating the slide and no ammo or mag. The slide would stop about 1/4" from being all the way forward (battery). The factory spring assembly did not do that. The spring pressure was not noticeably lighter than the factory one that I have modified. I have returned it to Galloway, and hopefully will live happily ever after with the slightly modified S&W guide rod.

With the 1000s of posts and published issues with the BG2, and my own experiences since August, I am “nervous” about the functionality with this handgun. So, anything that seems to be not right or out of the ordinary from my experience (owned firearms since 1977 and hit the range about once a month) is a concern. I want this handgun to be my primary pocket carry and EDC.

My last range visit and bench testing confirms that my front sight adjustment did help to correct the Low/Left POI. It’s still a 1.5” left and 1” low at 12 feet. So far, at about 200 combination rounds, I have not had any failures to feed or fire with Winchester PDX1 Defender, Sig Elite JHP, Hornady Critical Defense FTX, Federal HST, Winchester FMJ Flat Nose, Magtech FMJ, and PMC Bronze FMJ. I cannot get 10 rounds in the 10-round mag and I cannot get 12 rounds in the 12-round mag. I load them 1 round short.

The OEM spring rate has been perfect.
I can baby it as gently as possible and it goes 100% into battery.

I noticed that Galloway is only offering OEM and +10 springs for this part. Perhaps they discovered what you did??

Just curious, why did you opt for -10% instead of OEM?

The amount of grip and force it takes to rack this slide is incredible. I understand there may be some "design" function requiring that amount of spring assembly pressure. Since I modified the factory guide rod spring and corrected the end of the spring that prevented the front of the guide rod from seating into the front of the slide, the slide is somewhat easier to rack. Installing the Talon grip made a big difference.

I ordered the -10% hoping to reduce the amount of force it takes to rack the slide. I did not notice a difference with the Galloway Precision guide rod. I ordered the stainless steel thinking it would have less friction on the spring to guide rod contact. I did notice that the stainless steel is too shiny, and if I were to buy it again, I'd buy the Blacked Stainless Steel.

The addition of the Talon "slide grip" took care of that issue for me.

It is another $32.50 but might be worth a try to get the OEM???
The only part on the Black that is blackened is the front end nub/nut.
The body is shiny stainless.

The tip of the guide rod is what I would prefer it to be black and not shiny. I assume the OEM version is going to have the "OEM" spring pressure, right?

That is my assumption also that OEM is equal to the factory spring.
I tried real carefully to see if I could feel any difference, and I did not. But to be honest, I do not know that I could tell a +15 to a -15 just by working the slide.

The proof will be in the reliability of shoot. Maybe some others can post how their Galloway springs are working.

Okay, fair 'nough. With all the reports of the difficulty in racking the 2.0, I wasn't sure what to expect. But honestly, I don't find it difficult at all. I'll be receiving the OEM spring in black next week.

Later releases and shipments of the BG2 from S&W "may" have incorporated some changes considering the number of published complaints about the first release of this handgun. It was available in July last year, I purchased mine in early August.

I find it quite difficult to tell the difference in spring power in captured recoil spring systems unless the change in weight is large.

Could be. I just got mine earlier this week, shipped by Bud's Gun Shop from a warehouse here in N TX.

I think my big challenge is going to be getting the Lehigh Defense rounds to cycle reliably. That seems to be a big bugaboo.
