Today I drifted out the front sight to put in a green front site of the same width (fits in the sight channel). My measurements show the front sight to be 6mm in width.

I took this picture before the drift: It looks down on the front sight where the white line shows the width of the original sight to be 6mm. If you wouldn't mind, would you please measure yours and let me know if my measurements are on or off?

The new site would have been perfect but it slipped right on through the sight channel - and it, too measured at 6mm. I put the original site back on.

Can anyone give me an opinion as to what's going on here?

Thanks -

I'm confused (quite common for me) please explain a little more.

Is the issue the new sight fit in the channel too loose? When you say pushed right through?

Wouldn't the opposite width not indicated by your white lines along with height of dovetail be more critical to fitment?

I am sure others will be more knowledgeable.

Re read this after my first cup of coffee. The white lines are where you measured and not the distance between them correct?

I would check the height as when one is to tight material is usually filed from the bottom.

One possible fix if the fit is close to put a couple of dimples in the bottom of the sight with a sharp center punch

I couldn't find a front sight that fit tight so I got the closest thing I could find which was the Tru-Glo made for the Shield EZ9. It was close but could be pushed through with my thumb, but I didn't give up. I used a dab of Permatex Orange Thread Locker around it and let it set up for a day. It is now rock solid and will not move unless driven out. It is much brighter (both the orange and the tritium than the factory one. The rear sight is for the standard Bodyguard and Ruger LCP Max. It has tritium inserts in it too. Great day and night gun now.
