Black Talon for The New Millennium?

How does this "hole saw" effect work?

The front of the bullet has teeth. The front of the bullet is spinning. I got that.

Europeans seem to like 1 turn in 10 inches. S&W uses 1 in 18.5.

So if the bullet is traveling at 1500 fps (I pulled that number out of the air - I don't know their velocity), that is 18000 inches per second, so at 1 in 10, they are doing 1800 rotations per SECOND in a Glock or HK or CZ. Sounds like it oughta do some serious "hole-saw cuttin' " damage.

Thing is, your average human body is what - ten inches thick? So at 1500 fps, it takes the bullet 1/1800 second to go through. And if it's making 1800 rotations per second, and it takes 1/1800 of a second to go through, it will make ONE ROTATION as it passes through the body.

Leather jacket, or a couple of layers of denim - 1/8"? 1500 fps is 1800 inches per second, is 144000 "eighth-inchs per second". That will be 0.0125 rotations. 1/80 of a turn. Just how much cutting is that "hole saw" doing, if it is only cutting for 1/80 of a turn?

Sounds like it just punches a hole through it. Same as all other ammo does.

Interesting concept to dump as much energy as possible.
If they actually feed in a variety of pistols?

Interesting concept and could be quite effective if it works as claimed.
But, one of the things that killed the Black Talon was its name. The media and antis latched on to that name with a vengence. And they call this thing R.I.P.? Yeah, good luck with that. :rolleyes:

Yes, just don't give it a scary name.

They name it "Cop Killer Bullet" and it will get banned is my prediction.

Chuck

Yup, bad name. They wanted to attract attention with the name...my guess is they will. That...and the shrapnel aspect.

It is a very light projectile comparatively (about 50% of a 124gr. 9mm) so the trade off in energy released may not be much of a benefit.

I wonder what the weight of the center projectile is after the little barbs tear away. It's 96 gr to begin with.

Plus, since I'm always a skeptic, I question the density of their gel. It looked a lot more jiggly than standard.

Interesting concept though.

Given how finicky many autoloaders can be about feeding, I'd guess there will be a fair number that won't handle it.

But you can bet that antis watching the YouTube clips are freaking right the hell out. Attempts to ban will ensue shortly.

This was a claim they have made, the math doesn't quite add up though.

Now if someone would give me a couple boxes to run through my wife's LC9 I'll take em.

The company is only releasing specifications for their 9mm round:

* 16″ Penetration
* Up to 6″ diameter spread
* 96 gr projectile
* 2″ grouping at 25 yrds
* 1265 FPS / 490 Muzzle Energy
* 9 Separate Wound Channels
* Precision Machined
* Solid Copper / Lead Free
* Defeats all known barriers such as sheet metal, sheet rock, windshields, plywood, heavy winter clothing
