Hello,

Can anyone tell if there were ever any 5900, 4013, 4000 or 3900 series TSW pistols that were black and not stainless. I mean pistols that you could just buy, not special orders by the Mexican Federal Police.

Thank you

I have seen a single 3913TSW (circa 1999) TDT8100 with what appeared to be factory Melonite (black) - it was in original SW box end markings 9156 with Product Code 149156 and SKU 0 22188 49156 2. Most likely a PD Spec Order based on the 149xxx Product Code.

The 3913TSW in black is odd in that pistols ending in 3 or 6 would be silver. The black variants of same pistols would be 4 and 5 respectively. It should have been a 3914TSW.

Also there was the 3914TSW (reportedly 1060 made 2006-2009) - my UCF19xx dated by SW as 11/2009 Manufacture Date. Product Code 104532. I have seen several of these - all UCF prefix except 1 BDK prefix. The BDK was an odd duck (early production) - same 104532 Product Code, box end marked 3914TSW and date code 6055 but pistol not marked TSW.

And there were the 3914DAO (technically not TSW, but almost same as a Double Action 3914TSW (which could have been a hypothetical 3954TSW).

And there were the Melonite Colorado State Patrol 4006 (not TSW) and a small run of Melonite Slide / Stainless Frame 4013 (not TSW) produced for Colorado State Patrol for evaluation that were surplused and sold retail (sold by Lew Horton). Again models ending in 6 and 3 should have been silver.

And of course there were the 4566TSW product code 150933 for WV State Police and WV Public Service Commission.

Supposedly there were a few (23?) 5904TSW but I have never seen one.

There were 5906 (not TSW) Modelo Militare (Special Order Export) and 5946 (not TSW) for RCMP in Melonite

But overall, I would have to conclude the majority if not all the Melonite TSWs would have been Special Orders, especially those with 147xxx-15xxxx product codes. The possible exception would be the 3914TSW and the 5904TSW.

I'm envious of your 3914TSW!
I didn't realize that there were that many of them made. I wonder if the upcoming edition of SCSW will have a listing?

There were a couple/few 5904TSWs made.

Rumor is that this one was made to test the machinery in Houlton, ME.
Says Springfield on it but fired casing is from Houlton.

Beautiful Pistol. Houlton pre-production would make sense - do you have original box (end date?).
Nine of the ten 3914TSW I have seen (exception = 1 BDK circa 2006) have been UCF19xx-UCF20xx marked Springfield, Ma. with box end code 9317. SW came back with 11/23/2009 for mine and 11/13/2009 for a second one i checked - both box end coded 9317. I dont remember mine having gold letters, but now I will have to check.
Confirmed Gold Letters on 3914TSW UCF prefix - pictures not mine - these were offered for $$$$ sale as a matching pair with sequential S/N in 2021.
The BDK is NOT Gold Lettered. Box end marked 3914TSW but pistol is not marked as TSW.

I do. Box has 8322 (11/18/2008?) on it but fired casing is dated 02-26-09.

I have a UCF50xx prefix pistol but it's a plain 5904 with 0044 (02/13/2010) on the label. Springfield on the pistol but Houlton, ME on the fired casing dated 04-19-10.

Hi,
couple of questions:
1) is the finish melonite?
2) is the gun decocker only or normal safety?
3) did the gun came with the polished barrel bushing?

very nice !!!

1) I'm not sure if it has a blued carbon steel slide or a stainless slide finished with melonite. I'll have to pull it out and check.
2) Normal manual safety.
3) :) Seems they threw it together with spare parts. The barrel (of course), barrel bushing, guide rod, magazine catch, nut & plunger and the side plate are all stainless and not blackened.

Very nice - only 5904 I have ever seen beyond about 1998.
Several models UCF prefix observed marked Springfield plus your 5904, mostly dated 2009 - 3914DAO, 3914TSW, CS9, 945-1, 5906PC Super9; and 5946 dated 2010 frame & slide marked Houlton ME.
3 observed BJM prefixes plus yours - my 3953TSW BJM18xx dated 9/2008 per SW; my 3914DAO BJM27xx 9/2008 per SW marked Springfield; a RCMP 5946 BJM41xx with match marked slide, frame barrel (no date)

Sadly, no box for my UCF 3914TSW, but falls within the s/n range listed.
