They have a quite a few quaint sayings in this part of the country . . . " the sun don't shine on one dog's tail all the time" . . . " even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while" . . . "every dog has his day" . . .well, today must have been my day.

Decided to take the wife up the road about 30 miles to an Eye-talian joint we like for some dinner and she asked if I was going to stop at a local gun show while we were up there (gotta love a woman like that). To be honest, I really had not planned on it since the last four or five times I went there was nothing seen of any interest. I told her "maybe". She asked again when we got close and I really did not decide until we were almost to the turn off and thought "what the heck, why not".

Got inside about 3 hours before the show closed and had not been there 15 minutes and had already seen at least three S&W's I wouldn't have minded trading on , had I been interested enough to remember to bring some trading fodder :(.

Two thirds of the way through the show there was a table run by a young man who recently opened a shop in the area and low and behold, there was a K22 on the table. Now, he seemed very nice and probably very knowledgeable about all the plastic semi-autos that are the rage, but told me the revolver was a consignment gun and he didn't know a lot about it.

So I bought it.:p

Five screw with a five digit serial number with "K" prefix indicates 1949. The hurried light-fading pix below pairs it with a 1972 17-2 I picked up locally a few years ago at what I thought was a very good price. Paid almost $15 more for the K22 :D. I need to find some correct grips for it and except for some minor surface wear on the bottom of the trigger guard and behind at the grip knuckle, I'd have to rate the original finish at around 93-95%. Any thin looking areas are due to the fill-in flash that was used since I was running out of available light. Can't wait to take this one to the range ! I've drooled over old K22's in the threads here and never dreamed I would luck into one this nice at that kind of a price.

Presently doing the "happy dance" .;)

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

Nice acquisition. Love the modified magnas on the square butt guns.

You did good.

Now, the wife mildly encouraged you to go to the show.

But, how was she when the wallet came out?:D

Good score.

Actually, she told me later that she knew something was up because she's known me long enough to know when I'm having an internal debate/conflict over something and said she knew it had to be something special when I bought it on the spot. She was fine with it because she knows I wouldn't spend it if I didn't think it was wise. Like I said, gotta love a woman like that !

And yes, she has a sister but the sister is the crazy one . . .:p

I want to meet the crazy sister!

what exactly does, " the sun don't shine on one dog's tail all the time" mean??

(everyone ought to have a 5 screw K-22)

Means one guy doesn't have all the luck all the time. :p Has something to do with , "if you're not the lead dog in the pack your view never changes . . ." :D

Congratulations on the wonderful purchase and a wonderful wife. I love the K22 and Model 17 series of revolvers and a clean one is about the only S&W revolver that will instantly get me to pull my wallet out if it's priced right. I tell my lady who is also wonderful that I'm not looking for any S&W revolvers right now and then I tell her that if there is a P&R S&W 22 revolver stand back and watch me throw my shoulder out of socket getting my money out.

You deserve to be doing the Happy Dance.

Finally got a chance on this sunny Easter afternoon to snap a few natural light shots. I'm certainly not the expert that many here are but I'm pretty certain this is the original finish on this old girl. No refinish/rework marks under the grip and the number on the cylinder matches the number on the butt. Doesn't look bad for a 62 year old, does she?

And fyimo, once I determined what I thought I was looking at was what I was looking at, I almost did the shoulder dislocation thing. There were a couple of guys who had walked up and were looking over my shoulder and I didn't want to take the chance of someone snapping it up in front of me :D

That finish looks original to me.

Although those grips aren't correct, they are still a nice set of K frame Magna Duty grips.

Glad you found that acorn.

Superb score on the five screw K-22! I finally found a 1954 five screw a couple months back, but it sure isn't as pretty as yours. Mine is a beautiful shooter though, and my wife loves it. Now, hopefully I can 'stumble' on another at a fair price someday.

I just love young people selling guns who don't know what REAL guns are worth.

It's them old guys who grew up with well finished revolvers who make it hard to deal with!
