I am going to get a Classic. Mod 24. I can't decide which finish. I have other guns in both finishes, and like them equally. Well I do like the nickel, in certain guns better however. You know some just look better in nickel than blue.IMHO. What finishes do yall have more of. Is one going to hold it value longer? It will be a shooter, not a safe queen. But the way gun prices are going up, it would be nice to have something that is going to hold its own later.

I have just enough pimp in me, or bandito, whatever the case may be, to really like nickel. I have a new 40-1 in nickel, and while the factory grips are ****, the finish is AWESOME! My three inch Model 13 is flawless, except for the fact that it is blue. While it is a great blue, I lust a nickel version of this same gun so BAD! Go for it, get nickel, you won't be disappointed. You will sit around that much more and polish it out with an old rag.

+1 on nickel. It's pimptastic!

My gun is so bright, I gotta wear shades

Anything but color case frame is classic. Case hardened frames cannot by definition be classic as S&W never built them like that originally. Besides, color case frames on S&Ws is just plain weird, in my opinion.

But, opinions are varied, and that is why S&W apparently sells these abomonations!

I'm sure the same thing was said when handguns were first nickel plated, as such electroplating technology only became common in the latter part of the 19th century. Until then, bluing was THE classic finish.

Colors from case hardening may not be classic to S&W, but there is no denying that such is a classic look for firearms.

I will own a S&W with a case colored frame one of these days.

My new 24 classic is nickel. I love nickel Smiths. Most of my past purchases have been in nickel. My oldest nickel Smith is from 1973 and the finish is still going strong.
I HATE those new altamont grips. They are WAY too thin at the top. And WAY too long on the bottom. I replaced mine temporaryily with the grips off one of my 29-2's. Why couldn't they have duplicated the old grips also???????????

Wyatt I totally agree that this option is a classic look also. The wife doesn't know it yet but I see a Model 40 in my future with this treatment

I like the case finish, on hammers and triggers. Overall it just don't appeal to me. I would go blue before I went case. But the nickel is what my 24 will be. I was hoping to find an older version, but it looks like I will get the Classic. GB has several with prices all over the place. My friend who owns a gun shop said he would let me have it at his cost, for helping him at a gunshow a few weeks ago. So with the deal, the new one is to hard to resist. We need a thread for nickel revolvers, of all kinds. When I figure out how to post pics I will show mine off oneday. I think I am up to about 5, well 6 in just a little while. When I get my new Classic Mod 24. Man I can't wait.

I have a set of N frame grips from a 29 I think. Got them at a gunshow. They were carved in India, and are really elaborate. I want to put them on the Mod 24 nickel, I hope to have pretty soon. I have not handled the 24 classic, no one around here has one in stock. I may like what comes on it. Time will tell.

Hey Wyatt Earp, a bit off subject, but I am friends with the real Earp family desendants. The Great grandsons. Good guys. They are in North Carolina. We work in the same industry, and see them a few times a year at our market/ conventions.
