I watched parts of the old "Blues Brothers" movie earlier tonight. I like the music and thought the movie was pretty good. It had a bunch of very famous actors doing small parts. One thing I had forgotten was that there was a ton of cars destroyed in the movie! I was wondering how many and googled it. Found this:

"103 cars destroyed in the 1980 film, 104 cars destroyed in Blues Brothers 2000. Blues Brothers held the record for the most cars smashed until its own sequel deliberately destroyed just one more. For the 1980 film's main chase, 60 police cars were bought for $400 a piece, and outfitted with reinforced chassis."

The classic comedy team of Akroid and Belushi. Some think that Belushi was over the top but he was a comedic genius in his own right. Akroid was no less a genius. Had Belushi lived longer he would no doubt have made more great comedies. Akroids Trading Places, Ghost Busters and Doctor Detroit marked his as one of the greats.

Elwood Blues: This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving them away.

Elwood Blues: It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what?[Jake lights a cigarette using his own lighter.]"Joliet" Jake Blues: Fix the cigarette lighter.

HMMM, I always thought "Gone in 60 Seconds" held the title for most cars crashed.

I've seen it four or five times the old Blues Brothers, but never knew that many cars was destroyed.

I always like watching the reruns and I guess I don't remember seeing the 2000 sequel. Maybe I saw it but just don't remember it.

Ackroid and Belushi toured with that band and made an album, still have it somewhere. Serious blues musicians for a couple of white boys. I taped it on cassette and the ex-wife threw it out the window in Montana after a long trip in the truck and camper. I made a note: "Memo to self - pack more tapes. Avoid too many replays."

She may have gotten rid of my Ophir State Marching Band tape, too.

Aloha,

I had the Plymouth version of their Dodge Polara.

Only difference was mine had a 400 4bbl motor.

Would smoke the tires easily.

It was Fast too. It would get to 100 easily.

Wife made me get rid of it.

In Heavy traffic, other drivers gave it Lots of space.

It did have a few battle scars.

It also had 3 Dents in the hood, no doubt from Attitude Adjustments.

Sister Mary (the Penguin) Stigmata, Carrie Fisher with a bazooka, fishtailing into Chez Paul, singing Stand By Your Man behind chicken wire and so on, so forth.
Good flick.

I've never sat through the whole movie, always thought it a bit of a bore.

If Belushi had lived just a bit longer he would have been in Ghostbusters.

In fact if you're into the sci-fi scene you'll know Dan had some very odd ideas for Ghostbusters before they made the film,if he'd had his way it'd been a whole different movie.

absolutely a great movie! Its been ages since I've seen it, but the other day I dropped the "Mission from God" line at work, and no one had any clue what I meant, or where it was from.

That's Funny, reminds me of a trip we took to Vegas.. We went to see some "Blues Brothers" impersonators in a show and when we arrived there was a full row of 20 something kids in the front row with Huge Black Sunglasses on.. Hilarious because those kids probably were not even born when the first movie came out, But they Loved the show (Us Too)..
