Blur your home, vehicles, etc on Google Earth

Just a FYI. Didn't see this posted here so I want to pass this along. You can go to google maps/earth street view of your residence and click down on the bottom right "report a problem". This will allow you to request that your house, car, etc be blurred permanently on google earth. I'd rather have a blurred image of my house than crooks worldwide getting a free view of what is in my driveway.

In less than 4 hours I had an email stating it was in the works. The next day my home is blurred. Be specific in the what do you want blurred section.

Yeah they could have definitely used a better blurring technique. If you move down the road one click you could see everything in my open garage. At least that is blurred enough to not make out anything inside.

One day last year I saw one of the Google Earth cars with a pole mounted camera pass me by. I was on my way to my favorite bike path as it went by. Sure enough about 4 months later I checked Google Earth and there I was, lol.

This is amusing, at least to me. In the views of our house the block wall prevents the camera from seeing into the back yard. That's typical here in Arizona where we have often experience Javelina chewing on plantings that are not protected by block walls.

In the front, there is nothing to see because almost nobody parks their vehicles on the street or even in the driveway on a regular basis. I can tell the picture was probably taken on a Tuesday because the recycling bins are out waiting for collection.

Based on the foliage and a changed house feature, the pictures were probably last revised at least three years ago and are of much higher quality than the earlier set. I'm not sure that is a good thing, but it looks nice.

Oh, and Google has inserted a copyright notice in the sky . . . Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?

Anybody who wants to walk down the sidewalk in front of my house can get a clear, updated view. I have no issue with Google Earth. I think it's really neat. However, if they show a view of the combination on my gun safe i may take exception.

The problem I had with it was you could clearly see into my open garage. My tool chest, atv, etc. We had just moved in and had a ton of valuable items in plan sight that we hadn't moved into the house from the garage yet. So it definitely benefits me to have it blurred. I understand there are other ways to digitally see a picture of the exterior of your home. Just wanted to share that it is possible to blur your property if need be.

I am guessing all of the third party products use this same data. So, you shut down the intrusion at the source.

Google Earth has a great shot of me taking the garbage to the curb. The best part is I was completely oblivious to the fact that a crazy painted car with a gigantic camera mounted on the roof was cruising past me.

I love Google maps and street view. Helps unbelievably. Every time I have to go somewhere I do a quick street view and it gives me an idea of what to expect. And although not perfect it's incredibly helpful in my business as well.
