Serial Number dates to 1957... the same year S&W went to model numbers. Before 1957 your 14 would have been a Target Masterpiece.

Are you sure the gun is a five screw? The pictures don't seem to show it, and it would make sense if it were a 4 screw as S&W deleted the upper sideplate screw in 1955.

Hope this helps... regards...

Is it stamped with the model number in the crane cut? Nice looking K-38!

Looks like you made a good decision.

Nice lookin' gun.

It has the triggger guard screw,
it has the model number in the crane cut.

That's what these guys and gals are here for...to help us sort things out better. Thanks for the pics and nice catch.

Well,
I am in my realm now a carry and two range
weapons, My 3" gp100 is the Mrs go to for all.
On crutches after back and hip surgery she nailed a rattler and a water moccassin on the front porch while I was at work. She still has no thought of going to the range to practice
go figure

Nice looking pistol,I just put on in lay-away
At my local pawn shop(over 98%) it's serial number is K6974 ,does that mean it was made on the 4th day of the 7th month in 1969?

350.00 out the door.

No, the serial number has to be looked up. If that is the entire number it was shipped in 1947. At that price you better run back and pay for it before it's gone.

Not a problem as I have been doing bussiness with them for nine years,I thought it was too good to be true! But I think I will sell a few guns this week to get it out! I don't remember if it had Diamound grips or not (but the back strap did not fit all the way through the grips)it had patridge front sites and target hammer and trigger.

Edited went back to check and it seems he left out a ser number (it's a 14-2) but is still pristeen and with the 3-T's . Probably still made 1n 48-50. I'll know more when I pick it up.
