Bodyguard 2.0 issue- won't manually feed Hornady Critical Defense

.380s can be finicky. My Glock M42 took several hundred rounds (don't recall now, but I wrote it up here) before it would work right with carry ammo. I'd plan on running at least 300, preferably 500 rounds of FMJ before trying duty/carry ammo.

Some pistols don't work right with some ammo; probably tolerance stacking. You may need to try other ammo. I don't recall what it is or where I saw it, but LAPD only allows one load for .380s; I'd try to find out what that it is and try it.
IIRC, I've seen forum or Facebook chatter that LAPD allows FMJ for 380s, but I haven't seen it in writing. I can say for a fact that .380 is the one caliber where Chicago PD allows FMJ.

That said - yesterday I put 50 more FMJ through the gun at the range and then reinserted my carry magazine and chambered a round. at the end of the day I dropped the mag and went to eject the round and the slide was jammed... I was able to tap shake and forcibly manually rack it to clear it and it hasn't seemed to have a problem since.
What did the ejected round look like?? The BG2.0 is hard on charged rounds, and will push the bullet after some repeated chamberings.

My Bodyguard 2.0 will not feed 90 grain FTX Critical Defense at all. I have yet to get a single one chambered as it jams up as described by the OP. It does function with American Eagle, Sellier & Bellot and 90 grain Gold Dots.

The gun has just under 500 rounds through it, been thoroughly cleaned a number of times, had the feed ramp polished and is properly lubricated. Still a no-go on the Critical Defense. Interesting to see some others with the same issue. Not a problem for me as Gold Dots are my normal carry ammo in my 9s and Glock 42.

What is concerning is that my Bodyguard occasionally fails to go completely into battery when firing. It needs only a quick tap to fully chamber the round but it does need that tap. This has happened with all three brands of ammo I mention above. Going to give it a couple more range trips, but if it continues I'll need to contact Smith. A Sig P365 or Shield Plus are my normal carry guns, but the Bodyguard would come in handy at times.

Quick update

I finally received some 90g critical defense and it seems to cycle “ok” manually. I’m optimistic that it will cycle under fire but will test later this week.

I also picked up some norma nxd to compare to the underwood extreme with the Lehigh tips that failed to feed more often than not.

Manually cycling them they feed better (don’t jam) but it will not go fully into battery. Will test under fire later this week as well. I will properly clean and lube ahead of range session.

I am going to be polishing feed ramp and put a very slight polish (chamfer) on the bore as well - I’ll do that after I’ve tested as is and report back with a full report in a few days.

That's not a gun problem. It's an ammo problem. Pick something else. Small guns prefer hollow

points with small openings.
