I was in an LGS making a return trip to purchase a 4053 I looked at last week when a couple guns caught my eye, they had 2 686 2 inch'ers in the case, one was a new -6 with lock and MIM which did not interest me, the other one had a chromed trigger and chromed bobbed hammer, apon closer inspection it was a -3. Nice gun. Then I noticed behind it was what appeared to be a 3 inch 686 with chromed trigger and hammer, so I looked at it, popped open the crane and staring me in the face were the letters:
CS 1
2M
MOD 686
Wow, a CS-1!! This was one of those guns you read about but never see. Price tag was $599, I haggled him down to $575 OTD!!
Gun has some holster wear and a scratch or 2 here or there, but is mechanically cherry and nice bore, nice action. Also had round butt magna's which I understand are probably not original to the gun, I have not had them off to see if they number to the gun, but regardless, I am pretty happy.
Needless to say, the 4053 I went there to buy is still in the shelf. How did I do? I might in fact go back there next week to buy the 2.5" 686-3 too, they had it marked $599, but I might be able to do better.
By the way, I know what the M means, but what does 2M mean, that's a first, the 2 was a little offset from the M, like maybe it was stamped at a different time.
