Earlier this year, I bought a well used, police trade in Model 645. It has some scuffs and scratches, worn out Pachmayr rubber stocks and the safety had been permanently altered to be a single sided safety. Today, I stopped in a local sporting goods store to catch up with a couple of managers whom I have known for a long time and maybe find a Model 6906 or a 5903.
As I was talking and browsing, something on the bottom shelf, all the way in the back of a display case caught my eye. A S&W Model 645. I really don't know that I need another one and thought I might just check it over, then put out a notice here of its condition, price and location. It turned out to be in very good, I'd even go so far as to say excellent condition, much better than the one I bought earlier this year. Then I saw the price tag. The manager said he could not take much off of it and wondered who put that price on this pistol because they were about $100 off the mark. The tag price was $420, he knocked it down to $390, but with background check and tax, it became mine for $412 and a few pennies. Only one magazine, but I think I scored fairly well this time around.
Pics or didn't happen! So a couple of pics. Serial number is TAS 76XX.
This pistol is nice and tight, slide to frame fit as tight as I've seen on a S&W mass production pistol, barrel locks up tight, the only thing that rattled was the right side safety lever. Tightened the screw and eliminated the rattle. Other than a little powder residue, the insides are also pretty clean, so whoever owned this one took good care of it.
