After watching huge amounts of end of world, zombie and home invasion movies I realized that I wasnt prepared for anything like that if it were to happen. So I purchased my dream pistol but now I'm wondering what would be the next step? Shotgun? Another pistol or are 15 rifle? Now considering that I live I california what would you purchase next and why?

no way to tell what direction shooting and looking at guns will take you...I bought 3 M&P's within three months after starting out with a BG 380 late last year and early this year

ammo and plenty of it and lots of practice. As for other firearms what are your intensions. Close in, far away, backup or primary weapon system. Remember for a firearm to work properly you need ammo.

And I forgot more magazines then you think you may need.

Get as many mags and as much good quality ammo, both ball and HP, as you can. Get real training. Get good. Get really good. Do that with one platform, then and only then consider another platform.

1. Apex trigger kit

2. More mags

3. Night sights

4. Light

5. Ammo.

a road map showing the way out of state.

Ive tried leaving but the other half says she wants to be close to her family.

Is there a limit on how much ammo i can have at home? Whats the best way to store ammo? Are Promags any good? I always see the 10 rd mags going for $35+. Is that average? remember i live in Cal so my only option is the 10rd.

Is the Apex trigger that much better?

Nothing in CA is normal to the rest of the country except maybe NY.

With modern roads and cars, or flying if needed, nothing is all that far away. I could be in Maine in 4 days if I wished to be.

I have no idea what crazy rules CA has about ammo and other things; it's on my NFE list. Mags? I am not sure about Promag; ask in the M&P sub forum and folks who have a real clue can answer you. Reduced capacity mags are often ... troubled.

Now you shoot the ever living snot out of it! Buy a ton of practice ammo and practice!

Yes, more ammo and practice is the correct answer but I don't think it answers your question. Or that it is not the answer you wanted.

If the real question is, how do I build a battery, I would go with a self-defense shotgun next.

.22 rifle. Ammo will return and when it does it's the easiest to carry in large quantities if the need arises. Will also put meat on the table in tough times.

Remington 870 or Mossberg 12 gauge pump. They are nearly indestructible and the best close range, one shot incapacitator there is and they are very cheap, reliable, and effective.

Buy a Browning BPS Trap pump shotgun. Then head out to the nearest Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays range. Bring at least 4 boxes of shot shells with you. Spend a few minutes talking to the regular shooters to learn the rules of the game. Then go bust some clays.

You'll never be the same.

how do you guys purchase so many pistols so quickly. I live in nj and every pistol requires a pistol permit and they take months to get at a time..

Have you considered an M1 Garand? Google up the Civilian Marksmanship Program and see what they have to offer. I think you can still get a service grade M1 for $625.

Because most of the US does not have the silly laws that NJ, CA, and a few other places have. If what you have there is all you have ever seen, the rest of US probably looks like a different world.
