well if its an early model, it will have a two piece box, then later they used the one piece, fold up box, and finally went to the blue ,plastic case...depends on just what vintage you gun may be and just "which" box you may want or need.......yessir, they are ALL 3 , out there........yes, you can catch a "deal" on e-bay from time to time, so try that........

its a 4 in i believe it was born in 81, by the way it shoot amazing. i was not going to shoot it when i bought it, was going to tuck it away. then i figured what the heck, brought it to the range, now i cant stop shooting it

Just wanted to say...

I think only the very early 586's came in a two-piece blue box. My 586 "no dash" came in a one-piece folding box.

The "L" frames were introduced in mid 1980,June?? the 581 and the 586......or their 'stainless ' counterparts 680 & 686............we had some in the two piece boxes and then the one piece soon after.....got them from two different 'LE' distributors........'when they started to 'computerize' the labels (bar codes, etc) they needed more room ( bigger labels)? went to larger boxes, ,one piece, more generic, could fit MORE ,different stuff, in the same type box, save time, save money......
