brand new model 19 3" carry version vs used 19-4 2.5" for ccw...

Never shoot at someone who is hidden behind an engine block and never put your fingers in front of or near the muzzle of your gun when you are firing it. Other than that, 3, 4.25, 2 1/2, model 19, 66, 686. It dosn't really make much difference. Don't over think it.

Tristan-If you ever have to shoot someone it is technically a homicide. The Police will confiscate your gun as evidence until your case is resolved, and in some cases it is a long term situation. Your gun will be in a box in an evidence room somewhere. Not a great place for a collectible antique gun for sure. So get the newer model. Buy a lightly used one. Or buy a J-frame. There are trade-ins all over that have less than 100 rounds through them. They are disposable. While you wait, get some defensive handgun training, and focus on the legal aspects of being a responsible gun owner. That would be the most important thing. I can teach anyone to shoot a gun. The important part is understanding the consequences of pulling the trigger in a gunfight.

Engine blocks and firefights? Dude, I hate to pile on, but you need to step back and totally reevaluate the meaning of "self defense".

Read and reread Steelslaver carefully. He gave you excellent advice.

..I'll throw another thought at you...

Since this is a "carry" gun and most, like 95% of all defensive shootings take place within 7 yards...if you want a full length ejector rod and the extra 1/2" of barrel...how about a 65 3" RB instead...and for a defensive gun do you really need adjustable sights?

Now a 3" 66 would be the greatest but at $1200+ starting prices isn't the most economical... For about the same price of a new 19 3" you could get a 65 in excellent condition...

Just a thought...Bob
