Was looking on-line for something to catch brass when I shoot in the back forty .. Warmer weather is coming so will be doing more shooting here then at the range .. Tired of looking through the tall grass and weeds for the spent casings .. and never finding all of them .. have tried laying a tarp down but seems there are a few that always bounce off or don't hit and stay on the tarp .. and with the wind blowing the tarp seems to fly up and the casings don't stay on the tarp ..

Saw a number of home made ones on YouTube and there are some you can buy that fit on a tripod or are free standing ..

Anyone out there use one and if so what name or brand are they ?? Are they worth the money ?? I have some mosquito netting I could try to put something on some PVC pipe ..

Was wondering what others have used or are now using .. how easy are they to set up and of course what kind of quality material is used ..

I had made my own out of large fishing net. My Wife sewed a new mesh bag on it, I mounted it to PVC and could move it up and down. Looked "Bubba" but worked.:D The hard part is making a interal wire "O" shape" to keep the bag open.

With a tripod you can swivel, change angle, change height. Much easier.

Using a old blanket works better than a tarp the brass stays on it better than a slippery tarp.

Just my advice, look at the Caldwell and buy a good tripod. It works well. I like it a lot. Worth the money and on sale even:D

It's all a matter of finding where you gun kicks out the brass and line it up. It can sit on a bench without a tripod also.

Saw this one on YouTube and it did look pretty good and do like the way a tri-pod can be used .. I have a couple of tri-pods and could use my old one and leave it setup on one of them up for exclusive use ..

You say you have one .. ?? the price looks pretty good since it is on sale at several different stores .. WallyWorld one of them that has it ..

Yes, I bought one an ditched my homemade version.

Real easy to set up and it is large enough to work.

Not 100%, as ejected brass doe not always have the same "flight path":D Maybe 90%

Some guns like 380 Auto, well forget about it. They go into so other time zone!

Buy it at Wally Mart, try it If you don't like return it:D

CTK has one that is good for shooting from a bench, I made one from a fish net, I bent the frame to an oval shape.

The range we use has 2 large poles on right side of bench. My cousin came up with a twin fitted sheet he staples it to the poles, brass hits sheet and catches in fitted portion near the ground.

That wouldn't be practical where I shoot in the back of my property ..

But thanks ..

I picked up a Cadwell a couple years back after seeing one at the range. Works enough to be worth the money, but can need adjustment for what ever I am shooting. I would buy another if this one went South. :)

For table use, my range uses two clamp down grips with a 3ft plastic or wood dow attached and a section of mosquito mesh attacked to each that fits their tables.

For the back yard two sections of rebar pounded into the ground with a section of 1" PVC slide over it plus the netting works for me.

I have used a butterfly net found in the $1 store for the 9mm but I had to shorten the handle..... and they get damaged after a while. Place on the pistol grip and fine tune the wire if needed.

No idea for a pistol.

For a rifle with scope I use a baseball cap with the Velcro adjustment loop around a base. Doesn't "catch" but keeps it right there.

This doesn't work on the AR with an EOtech sight so have tried the catcher style with Velcro strap around the forearm and wire/net catcher extending aft. Don't care for this as it always needs adjustment. There is one which attaches to picatinny but mine is too short. looks like it would be a good solution.

Well ordered the Caldwell Universal Brass Trap .. was on sale at Wally World for $34.99 but had to order it .. got an e-mail that its in .. picking it up this evening .. ordered it to the store that way no shipping charge .. just a few more cents for taxes .. will do a review when I get and use it ..

Thanks to all for all the replies and good info .. but decided not to do a home made one ..

Brass catcher

I shoot beside my JD Gator, and virtually all of the brass goes in the bed. Of course, that is not an inexpensive option.

I have a 10' square of plastic screening that I put on the ground. Screening folds up quite small and will not blow around in the wind.

Well picked up the Brass Catcher on Thursday and opened the package last night and it was broke !! The screen material had been ripped along one side at the seem and the metal base looked like it had been removed from the packaging and them put back in the bubble wrap .. the tape had torn the bubble wrap .. it had been returned by someone else and put back into stock .. so this morning it went back to the store and a new one was ordered ..

This time I will open the package there when it comes in to insure this doesn't happen again ..

They didn't want to take it back because in magic marker I wrote in big block letters this is broke do not return to stock .. I told them I did so so another customer wouldn't have the same results as I had with the item ..

After a short discussion my money was returned .. and I went about my business .. so the review will have to wait a few days till a new one is received !!

I bought a queen size bed mosquito net off of eBay and it works great and was really cheap. So cheap I don't even care if it gets torn up, but so far it has help up fine and catches almost all of my brass.
