I was out plinking and had my first FTF, noticed it was persistant and went home to clean it out. I thought maybe it had some build up bit when I went to clean it a piece of what resembled a hook came out. After close inspection I pinpointed where it originated from, it came off of the trigger hammer (bottom side going through the bottom portion of the trigger hammer) Since this has happened ive been cocking the gun and dri firing it, now the pin that keeps the hammer in place slowly comes out after every time I press the trigger. Is thi covered under warranty? I havent had rifle for longer than two months...

Spend a little money and buy a better FCG, in my opinion. There's the ALG QMS for ~$45 and the ALG ACT for ~$65. Your problem will be fixed and you'll be better off in the end.

Where can I find them at that price? I was also thinking of purchasing some new pins so they will stop walking.
Thanks for reply

Email or call S&W explain the problem and they should send a shipping label. It should be covered under warranty since you just bought it.

S&W will fix it. The hammer needs to be replaced, the little piece you found is the "J" spring which keeps the hammer pin from walking out. Seems to be a problem lately, but an easy fix.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade the FCG...

If you want to play the waiting game on a repair thats fine but personally i'd just search the web, find a FCG you want and order it, chances are your going to upgrade it in the future anyway :)

a week turn around is not much of a waiting game...i shipped mine on a monday, picked it up at fed ex 8 days later...

Or maybe someone who has made a trigger swap could just send you their old takeoff parts.....

If you were happy with your original trigger then I would send it back for warranty repair. However, if like so many you want something better, this might be a good time to upgrade to an enhanced trigger. Depending on your skill level, you can buy a kit & build your own enhanced fire control group. If you have no mechanical ability, like me, a drop in trigger is the way to go. You just yank out all the old parts & drop in the unit. Can't get any easier. I have both the Timney & CMC and both are excellent triggers but I find the CMC easier to install. I did purchase JP anti-walk pins for both of mine.

Upgrading the 15-22's trigger is now mandatory if you want a safe and functioning rifle.

Don't sweep it under the rug. That's what a S&W fanboy would do and it's not good for anyone. They need to know how widespread the issue is so the can make some changes.

You lost me here. If he upgrades on his own, the gun doesn't go back to S&W so they never know of the failure.

If he sends it back to S&W for warranty repair - on their dime - why do the upgrade????

I vote send it back.

It's a .22 not a Home Defense gun and the added cost of adding an after market trigger is like putting lipstick on a pig - it's still a pig, just a 'pretty looking' pig :)

Have to disagree with you on this point. A trigger upgrade does nothing for the external appearance of the gun. It is not a tactical cool addition, like so many parts are. Even though this gun is a .22 and not a home defense gun, it is still a weapon and I like my weapons to have dependable, safe triggers. Not so light as to go off when not expected but not so heavy and gritty as to make shooting inaccurate. I use this gun as a trainer for my home defense AR and for that reason, I want them both to be as similar as possible... especially when it come to trigger feel. The 15-22 with the stock trigger would be a poor trainer for me but with the CMC, it is perfect.

Thanks for the replies, for some reason the place I bought it from didnt know what I was talking about (J spring on hammer) and one of their employess was refusing to show me another m&p so I could shos him... Needless to say I wont be going back to that place. Found a AR 15 trigger hammer from Surplus Ammo, will that fit?

Yes, it will.

Unfortunately, the average gun store employee is even more ignorant of firearms than the average Radio Shack employee is of anything but a cell phone.

Both free shipping:
QMS
ACT

I would, but I always buy LPKs without the FCG. :o I cheated and put JP springs in my 15-22.

Read it again.

I also vote send it back. S&W should be responsible for all the cheapo FCG's they're using these days.

Send it back to S&W for repair under warranty. Order the FCG of your choice while it is gone if that is what you want to do.

If for some reason in the future it has to go back to S&W; put the factory FCG back in the rifle. From what I have read S&W will put factory parts back in a firearm that has been sent in for repair.

This is the first I have heard of the trigger issues. Do they use the same trigger in the M&P-15? The ALG looks like a very good option for $45.00.

Do yourself a favor and drop a CMC 3.5# trigger in it and call it a day  and while your at it get the KNS non-rotating pins...oh and also while your at it get the slidefire stock....and when you done with that go on amazon and spend more money than what you bought the rifle for like what i did...hahahaha
