I saw this sitting all by itself in a corner so I thought it needed a home. I am not a collector but have a passion for 3" revolvers. Mod 36 Square butt, 3" deep blue finish, cylinders and bore are perfect. Tiny bit of holster wear on muzzle and top of sight. Timing perfect. Almost no cylinder gap. No rust anywhere. Slight turn line but someone took care of this gun. I took off the sideplate, cleaned, and light coat of Remoil. Runs like a clock.

Ser # 269XXX. The box is factory with the correct ser. number and model etc. written in by hand. Aluminum rod and brush included.
Anyone give me an approximate value and year of manufacture?
I paid $399 guessing that was a fair price for a 3" mod 36.

Nice. I think 4-500 is a fair price. Looks like you're at the bottom there with $399. I paid $450 for a very nice 2" about 2 years ago. I carry it so 2" RB was better for me. Enjoy.

I'd say you got a great deal. I paid more for a later one with box and papers.

The flat latch and the 3" barrel are both value enhancers. I think you did really well at $399. Box and tools to boot? Beautiful revolver , heck of a deal.

I am quite surprised that you removed the side plate - almost certainly the first time those screws were touched by a tool since the gun left the factory. I sure wouldn't have done that , but - not my gun.

Not a collector but I wanted to make sure everything was clean and shiny on the inside before it goes to the range. It was full of oil from years ago and now after cleaning, the trigger is very heavy but very smooth.
I thank Brownells for my set of S&W specific screwdrivers and all screw heads remain in perfect condition.

That's a good deal in my opinion. If that gun was in an LGS here, it'd be marked at at least $500. Seriously.

One question if you don't mind...and I don't mean to nitpick, okay? Are those the correct stocks for that gun? It might just be the angle of the photographs or my own eyes, but to me, the stocks look a bit too long for the frame.

I am not sure if they correct for that gun. Maybe a collector will come along and help. They do not cover the bottom of the frame where the serial number is stamped.

Perhaps you could make a few more photos...close up maybe...to show the fit at the bottom? As I said, I'm not nitpicking your gun by any means...it's just something that caught my eye. I'd have bought that gun at that price in a heartbeat.

They look original to me and don't hang down below the frame.

FYI, I don't think M-36-1 ever came with a flat latch. It wasn't introduced until well after that was replaced by more modern cylinder releases.

Look in contemporary gun books. You'll see that your gun looks just like the photos in those.
