Anyone have any experience with this rifle? It is NIB (but manufactured in 1980) with an already mounted Leupold scope. I'm hankering to get a new deer rifle and a friend of mine offered this up to me.

I'm leaning towards getting it, but I just wanted to check if anyone had any positive or negative input on it. He's giving me a nice "friend" price.

Thanks

Ditto. I had a Browning BAR in 30-06. It was an 78 vintage.

It was a nice rifle and had a preference for 150 gr Barnes TTSX bullets. It was a very fast rifle and worked well in the brush or shooting across a field.

Decent hunting accuracy (1.5" MOA) from the bench and never had any issues with feeding/ejecting.

Ended up selling when I decided to consolidate calibers and stick with the 7mm-08 as my primary hunting caliber.

I inherited a first year Belgium Browning from a uncle. Nice but they are heavy.

Buy it ...they are a little heavy but I have one in 338 I love ....

Great rifle.Bought mine in mid '70's.After much use converted to black composit stock and forearm. Some how it seems to have gotten heavier through the years but still shoots fine.In the past in a target rich environment I tripled a couple of times and doubled on several. You won't be sorry.

I have had one for years. Glad I got it.

One of the most consistent rifles I have for accuracy and holding zero.
Used to shoot inch and an eighth inch three-shot groups at 100 with Remington 150 grain PSPs. I use the same bullets for reloads and, after making rounds that were just a bit hotter got a group of exactly an inch at 100.

Took my first buck with the BAR and also the only coyote and bear
I've killed. Have gone to a lighter bolt-action for deer but still
usually sight-in the BAR as my backup in the fall.

The Amish uzi! Or is that the pump action version? I always forget.

Anyway, when I read "BAR" and "30-06" the rifle pictured is not what comes to mind

I have both a BAR and a BLR in 30-06 and would not even think of parting with either one. Yes, they are a bit heavy but that makes them really sweet shooters. You can't go wrong with it.

This BAR(sporting rifle) was designed way after JMB died...........He designed the military BAR which is long extinct.

Extinct? Better not let my girl hear you say that. Large Marge isn't a girl to be trifled with.

I purchased a 338wm back in '94, bolt action. Today I kick myself it wasn't a BAR.

You can buy the orginal WW 2 30-06 BAR today brand new from,

Home - Ohio Ordnance Works

Yep, that's where I got Large Marge though back when she came to live with me the price was about $1,100 cheaper and everything but the receiver and the wood was U.S.G.I. Still a lot of fun and way cheaper than one with the happy switch but some of the parts are new manufacture now like the barrels. Plus if you ever need it there's nothing like 20rds of 30.06 AP as fast as you can pull the trigger to stop a problem, or a truck for that matter in it's tracks. They also have new manufacture, 30rd mags though I haven't ordered any yet.
