Browning High Power

I am looking at purchasing a Browning High Power from a gun show. Can someone tell me where the serial number is located on the weapon and in how many places on the weapon they are located?

Can be different depending on country of origin-and when made-but-
Right side lower receiver just above trigger guard
On barrel at ejection port-so its just above the other one

There's a Browning Forum of course-The experts are on the forum-
If you are considering an old pistol for carry-check function-use a snap cap
I've seen magazines pop out of older guns-failure to eject etc.
If Nazi marked read up on how to determine phonies. Also, pistols made towards the end of the war suffered quality problems in many cases. Or they are just plain worn out.
New guns are expensive-but you get what you pay for-so research is a must.

Good luck they are neat guns-old school-but excellent carry guns-just get a good holster.

Some serial number ranges are worth more than others, especially those from the late 1960s-70's or so, the ring hammer guns too, any of the Belgian made pistols. I had a Belgian ring hammer gun, wish I still owned that prize not one of my finer moments.

On my permit (no big mags, boating accident), I like that it is single action; can't go off unless cocked. Half cocked is not recommended, I'm told. (?)

the earlier BHP, the serial numbers are on the right side near the ejection port for the slide numbers and the top edge of the frame above the triggers, later they moved them to in front of the grip frame ( grip strap) and the 60's and 70's guns the first single digit number in front of the 'letter' was the year it was made ,around the late 70's I recall they used a 3 digit number (245??) then letters and more numbers.....harder to know the years of mfg, after that, need a reference book...........
the 60-70 vintage guns came in a black zipper pouch, with a red lining. This was the desireable era guns, especially with adjustable sights as they were 'true" Belgium made guns, later the parts were Belgium but assembled elsewhere...........hope this helps
