Old time friend comes by today. Shows up with 500+ federal 38spl +P cases and wants some loaded up.

Well, I am not a manufacturer so I quickly reminded him:
1) power is not free
2) primers are not free
3) bullets are not free

He shows me a 12 pack of Summit IPA and responds "Will this cover it?"

We did everything by hand this time instead of on the progressive. He deprimed/resized 200 cases and I got the powder measure setup with Ramshot Silhouette.

We stopped 1/2 way through the bag and boxed up what he had. 6 boxes of 50rds using Speer 158gr LSWC-HP bullets.

He did get the other cases deprimed and sized and we'll finishing priming them next time. When he brings more beer.

Its a pretty good feeling to help a friend out when supplies are limited, but, people want to stay in practice.

Drinkin' an' reloadin'! What could POSSIBLY go wrong???

I won't speculate about your reloading or drinking habits, only to say that none of our beer, powder, or primers got spilled. All charges were confirmed before seating bullets into the cases.

Doing everything by hand and explaining each step to another person is a nice way to stay on top of things.

The only squib load I have ever had in my life was on a Lee Pro 1000. That unit has since been retired.

Dang, how many cases do you want? I'll take standard pressure loads so your powder will last longer.

I'll even spring for Grain Belt, Hamm's, Blatz, or Schlitz if it'll get me farther. ;)

Hamms +100
Grain Belt +100

Blatz and Schlitz, brews that harnessed the taste of burnt toast and aquanet hair spray.

Nope, he wanted some practice ammo that was safe for his 686+ snub nose. 38spl is the only +P ammo I dare load, as its still well below 357. Ramshot has lots of info on the details and by inspecting all of the cases manually before reloading, which is why we did these all by hand, there is less chance for a ka-boom.

Federal, Remington, and Starline cases are thicker and tend to handle +P loads more safely.

What, no "Black Label" as a group tightner !! ??

I hate warm beer.................
but will grab a can when I leave the reloading room when done.

That reminds me, I have powder and primers on the way......
soon.

Stay safe.

With the current prices for reloading components your friend Bud is going to have to come up with a lot more beer to make it a break even deal...

If you buy it when they have it, I don't agree. I don't even think about the price of primers and powder. They are the least of it.

Though try to find small pistol primers. I got an email from Midway CCI 500s were in, which took me two hours to get to. By then they were gone.

I am with berserker on this.

Practicing with handloads and getting in a cylinder full of the good stuff is good idea.

But, I won't reload any +p for autos. Too easy to kaboom the shiny toys.
