Buds has the 3" and 4" model 10s again

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

saw these for sale. in 1975 I made all my college spending (aka beer) money buying these (4" versions retired/traded in police issued) from one gun shop and selling at another from 5-30 minutes away for app 35-45$ each. NEVER had to hold onto 1 for more than an hour. a highly customized/tuned/blued 3" version is one that still haunts me for not buying almost 38 years ago. don't think I've ever handled a better pointing revolver with such a smooth action and trigger, but back then 300$ might as well have been a million$. these are coming in from Australia? right? made in the USA? unfortunately gotta get my 617 back online first, before I have to learn how to shoot again allover. grab up those 3" ones folks. any reports on the condition on them?

Yesterday I ordered a model 64 and it went right to shipping. Looks like I placed my order just in time.

Nacho- the last batch of Aussie 3" guns received mostly great reviews. The one I got is a great shooting gun and cosmetically not bad at all. If you order one of these from Bud's and don't like it you can send them back. I bought another 3" (haven't received it yet) because I liked the last one so much. There is a reason these are selling out in a couple days.

Get 'em while you can!
Scored mine the first time around:

The micro barcode weapon inventory stickers are from Victoria Police Armoury.
The Bud's guns are trade-ins from the Australian police, and because they came back to S&W, there are no import markings.
As the barcodes are part of these guns history, I decided to leave them intact.

Thanks Taroman! I just received my new-old 3" model 10 from Bud's a few hours ago, and I was wondering what that sticker on the side meant. It's cool to have an Australian Police surplus gun. I've decided to leave the sticker on, too.

My gun is from the late 1960,s and functionally excellent, but came with non-original wood grips. I'm guessing these were from Smith and Wesson, for they look brand new and are what they put on their new "classic series" revolvers.

I was wondering why there was no importer's mark either, and you've explained it, so I've gleaned a lot from your post.

Disclaimer: Wrong date range I know but on-topic for the thread.

2 4" SBs ordered either Tuesday or Wednesday (darn this memory of mine) arrived
at my dealer's today. I was surprised when he called as Bud's still showed them in
the shipping dept. as of this morning.

Both 10-10s, BHT31XX and BRL31XX, which, according to polite and courteous customer
representative David, shipped in Feb. 1992 and April 1994 respectively.

Apparently they both have PC Magnas but one set appears laminated with medallions,
the other more standard in appearance without medallions. I'll have to wait a while
to see them but I'm excited to learn they're still the "older style" K-frames.

Hopefully I'll have pics at some point but please share pics of yours as they come in.
"-" #s and other details appreciated as well.

Picked mine up today. The 3" is not as nice as the last batch, but then, the one I received back then was exceptional for a turn-in. All three have very tight actions with minimal cylinder play. Some small amount of light pitting and the right side of the 3" is lightly scratched. Overall I am happy as I was planning on using one of the 4" models for a range gun and the 3" for a RB conversion and refinishing project.

Lockup is tight, no end-shake, crisp trigger..finish like you would expect.

Took it to the range and put it through some paces. First 12 were semi-slow fired in SA, all landed in the killzone. Next 12 were fired DA not slow. All were reloads of 148gr DEWC's.

For now, I will leave it as is, but am already contemplating grip upgrade. Says it's a Mod 10-5, Serial number C96767x..I'm guessing late 60's, any help?

snorko - dash numbers?

Both 4" are 10-11, serial # CDSxxxx
The 3" is a 10-5, serial # Dxxxxxx

The local library has a copy of the Catalogue of S&W. I need to look up the correct dates for these.

just got my 3" looks the same as the other. i asked myself if I saw it at a gun show would I pay $300.00 and I said all day long. pic to follow later

Gave mine a good cleaning today after the range trip. The rifling is practically perfect, and cylinder bores are as well. I would bet no one with their eyes closed would guess this gun is 46yrs old while dry-firing it. I feel very lucky to have scored this one. I love it already.

Here is a 3 in I got which is one of two I ordered but the other one went to my grandson when he first saw it. I'm glad I ordered two.

Made my order for a 4" HB RB on Monday night.
Now when I try to log in to check order status, their system does not recognize my email and password.

A phone call to Buds using their menu shows no order placed to my zip code and phone number reference.

Apparently it is impossible to get a human to speak to at Buds.
When I ordered, I used their 'e-check' system in order to get the 'cash price', and AFAIK, the order went through - but how do I know? No email confirmation, and no way to talk to anyone.
Sorta aggravating......
Oh - no response to an email I sent on Wed. either....

My bank account showed the debit immediately, and I got an order confirmation by email immediately, followed by two more email with tracking number and order status. If none of these occurred, then my assumption is it didn't go through.

My 3" arrived today but I will not be able to pick it up until Monday, it pretty much matches descriptions posted by those who have received theirs in this post with one exception, mine has two stickers on the right side. One is the small round one that is on the other revolvers I've seen posted on this thread, along with a rectangular bar code. I will post pics once I get it home.

Mine's from 1967 too. Kind of jealous of other folks orignal(ish) grips, but mine are like brand new, and the Dymond wood grips are extremely durable. Looks like most folks are leaving the little round sticker on :) I am, too.

AFAIK, if there was some engraving or police markings..fine. But, for me, the stickers had to go. The guns "history" is written all over mine. First part was dirt and residue from it rarely being cleaned. That went away too. Second part is the scratches and nicks as it appears as much effort went into proper handling as the cleaning. My Pittsburgh police model 64 has about 1/5 the amount of scratches as this model 10. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but looking it over makes me shake my head at the thought of it's past treatment.
