I keep my hunting back pack loaded up with all your basic survival gear like flint and steel, rope, cable saw, duct tape, space blanket, flashlight, machete et.et. But I only plan on two guns a .22 Kit Gun and a Model 70 .30-06, it allows me to carry more essential gear.

Depends on what you count as a weapon. I have an M4 clone, G34, and there is both a field knife and a multi tool in my gear. And a pull through sharpener, need a way to sharpen things other than grinding them on a rock... I do keep an M7 bayonet fixed on the carbine, but that is just habit.

The G34 and M4 mags are in an Eagle universal carrier chest rig, that goes over my Izzy made tac armor and rifle plates. Since I injured a knee recently, I made sure to add knee pads this time around.

Otherwise the basics, stuff to treat gunshot wounds/trauma, redundant water purification options, water containers, poncho, light, emergency rations, emergency fishing/foraging gear, fire starters, coms, signals and extra AA cells for my ANPVS 14 and GPS unit, but maps of the area and a good old compass.

And eye protection, gloves, a shemagh, bug juice, etc.

Wife has much the same gear, including a spare radio, though without the night vision optics and she has a differing set of ammo pouches.

It's the stuff for a rainy day.

anyone got photos of the bag itself? and event he contents laid out neatly about it?

What about not so neatly laid out, I still have my pictures from last year or thereabouts where I just dumped everything out and the wife yelled at me to clean up the bed, so the photos are of all the fun stuff in a jumble. Being married is fun like that.

Where would I bug out to? I'm far from "targets' (except for the "Mouse House"), cattle all around, fish in the retention ponds and lakes, citrus fruit on the trees, wood for fires, gun loving neighbors. I've stockpiled "essentials." I need toilet paper ( can't seem to make that, not that I'm trying)) and I'm about good. Joe

My bug out bag is a very large Eddie Bauer duffle bag and it has about all the stuff previously mention. We love to go camping and kayaking and will sometimes decide to leave on a moments notice, so we grab the bag, a small cooler and some lawn chairs and we're on the highway within minutes and off to a fun filled weekend. I also grab a fanny pack with a CZ-75 .40 and three magazines, and I have an M-4 in a padded case with 5 magazines, and all of the sudden you're talking about a lot of weight to carry. My nephew was a survival instructor with the special forces and he has enough guns to fill a small room, but he recommends a Browning Buckmark and a Ruger 10/22.

BOBs are plan Bs, they are like parachutes. No matter how secure or ideal the surroundings (I live on a Marine base after all), one needs a plan B. Ideally you stick in your tooth brush and something to read along with toiletries, that way if you ride out a storm or gas leak in a hotel, you're fine. The M4 and goodies, well that's on the assumption that when it rains, sometimes it pours.

It also doubles as a ready/emergency stash for other contingencies. For all I know the Martians will land on the White House steps or the Canadian frogmen will come. (And as shone in an old Bugs Bunny cartoon, technically if the Martians land the militia is supposed to be called out, which is... well congradulations, you're in it, everyone is...)

Oh, and don't forget the clean socks and Gold Bond powder.

Fun thread...

Who actually goes out and use's their gear a few times a year, in different seasons? I've looked at some suggestions over the years as to what is "necessary" and have had some pretty good chuckles...

As to the original posters...what three weapons.

A small squaw style hawk, a carbon steel skinner knife, and 20 gauge with both ball and shot...

I have my Wildland FF stuff in a large tub. Tent, sleeping bag, food for about 4 days. We have a large fire behind the homestead going on as I write. 2600 acres in the wilderness less than 2 miles away. I had tender duty 2 days last week supporting a structure defense task force. I was ready to bug out last week, but the fire although closer is heading north and away.

I'm goin' to Joe's place...:D

I'm making my stand here. Once all my meds run out I'm dead anyway.

There are a gazillion sites like this one.

Bug Out Bags

Things to consider. How long do you need to last before you are in a better situation? The link above is for 72 hours.

For how many people are you packing a bag, or bags?

Water is most important, and heaviest!

.22 ammo is best. You can carry much more of it than any other ammo, and it has many uses.

What kind of disaster would make you leave your home? Toxic spills come to mind. Natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, etc.

Societal breakdown is a whole other animal, and would think one would have to be able to improvise well.

I have to agree with pharmer and ladder 13. I would stay put if at home. Having said that my scenario is two-fold. At work I have an bail-out bag for "active shooter" scenarios. I am normally in plain clothes so this over the shoulder thing works. four M4 mags, two MP .45 mags, multitool, quick clot, tourniquet and radio. The second scenario is to make it home during a natural disaster. I keep the small bail-out pack and add a pack with appropriate clothing for the weather, SOG tomahawk (just because) lighter, flashlights, binos, night vision, food and water. Yes, all these items are in my SUV as I write this and they get used on a regular basis. The firearms, first scenario, M4, MP45, Rem 870. Second scenario, The Rem gets dismantled and left behind and my Rem 700 LTR in.308 goes with me. Finally survival situation, .22's hands down winner. I can carry 1000 .22's easier than 1000 anything else. M&P15-22, S&W 617, S&W 63.

i wear a suit to downtown SF every day. in a high rise. i take a 45 minute public train ride. if the Stuff hits when im at work, i have 2 options. i keep a cheapy backpack in my cubicle with a few bottles of water, change of clothes in something more grubby ( jeans and local sports team hoody so i blend in better). a leatherman and a pair of old hiking boots that still fit and socks. also a small FAK and a matches and a heavier duty emergency blanket, a few cans of tuna and a few halloween bite size candy bars and roll of quarters and nickels .. the nickels are not for spending... option one is to hoof it home. about 25 miles due east as the crow flies over teh SF bay. through the ghetto of oakland or down the peninsula towards other friends homes. or go to a co-workers house. i should probly add a small transister radio. thats if the bridge is still up
its likely that especially if its a natural disaster (earthquake) the trains are not running
either option not good. a fireamr is not an option fo rme to keep at work. if it hits when im at home. i have 2 kids under 2 and lots of gear and stuff stored at the house. id rather hunker down and try to ride it out. lots of water on hand and a organic garden and chickens. as well oas other food. although just a few minutes south of me it gets pretty rural pretty fast. once i do get home if we decide we need to bail its that way were heading into some remote woods. most of which is owned by the SF water district that nobody has really gone into for years and years

In most cases , a B.O.B. should be a " Get to my home " bag . Bugging out should be a last resort . I witnessed people bugging out before Hurricane Katrina , and it wasn't a pretty sight . Imagine trying to do that in a SHTF scenario .

Leave only if you have no other choice .

+1 I'm staying put, the safest place for me to be.

There's gotta be 15 million people living within 100 miles of me, how far can I get ?

You speak the truth.....better to bunker up. My heart desease and my wife's cancer would limit our ability to migrate.

I have decided that I will not be bugging out. I will take my chances here with the storm shutters, aresenal, ammo and food depot.
