Building an arsenal.....

Well I see in less than a month you have gone from hoarding M&P's, to buying lowers and other parts, expressed an interest in possibly reloading, and you're even buying raffled deer rifles. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but the progression is quite interesting. I'll check back middle of next month.

Haha. Yeah, I can be a bit impulsive!

I made a decision the other day to buy an MP 15 .22. Already bought 4 mags today and will get the rifle by the end of the month. The idea here is to make it cheaper to plink and i think it will be easier to get the wife to the range. (Noise and kick)

Still researching safes....

iibgdi,

I like how you roll. You want what you want and you go for it. Even though I wouldn't make the same choice, I can respect yours. If you're on this trend, I have a few suggestions from my own "arsenal" past and present.

You need an AK-M chambered in 7.62 x 39. It checks off the 30-caliber semi-auto rifle off your list.

My current is a Kalishnikov Concern (pre trade sanction) AK-M conversion outfitted with Magpul furniture.

I had an Aloha-Snackbar! underfolder type from Blackeart Interntaional that I gifted to a close friend.

I used to own a Benelli Supernova Tactical shotgun. I never had the opportunity to shoot it and my home defense reality doesn't make a shotgun a good choice. It's a sweet shooter.

You need a Ruger 10/22. Trust me. Mine is modified under the skin.

Target. I had two flyers :(

I highly recommend a Mosin Nagant. I had one for a couple years. I learned how to remove cosmolene because of this rifle. There is nothing like shooting a rifle with this type of history.

I highly recommend an IWI Tavor. It's the only modern sporting rifle chambered for 5.56 that is patterned after a military rifle that I own today. I got off the AR-15 bandwagon.

Mine is the 18" barreled model. I eke out every bit of velocity the 5.56 can provide in a package that just fits me. I dropped in a Geissele Super Sabra trigger pack and it's perfect. Is it a 100yard tight group rifle? Sure it can be, but it's not what I need it for. What it does for me is provide fist size groups on targets at 100 yards under quick fire off hand.

Welp.....I was at a sporting goods store yesterday just looking around and saw the MP 15 .22 for $403 (including tax) so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.....

the 4 magazines I purchased online should be here in a few days and now all I need is some ammo.

Will probably now commit to stocking up on ammo before buying more guns. but if I find a good deal.......

Oh, and I still need a safe.

Nice guns. Since I've never been a huge gun guy, I'll probably stick to pretty stick to a somewhat simple collection. for now! I'm not sure why, but the AK's don't appeal much to me. My father in law I believe has a Ruger 10/22. If his financial woes continue, I'm guessing I'll own it soon

I've been committed to this collection for about a year and a half only. So far, here is what I have accumulated:

SW MP 15 Sport II
SW MP 15 .22
Ruger LC9
Ruger LC9
Ruger SR9
Ruger SR9E
S & W Bodyguard .380
Remington 870 Shotgun (20 yrs old)
Remington 700 CDL 300 Win Mag.
Anderson Stripped lower Receiver
Anderson Stripped lower Receiver

Not bad for such a short term. Aside from getting serious on buying ammo for the next 3-6 months, my next gun purchases will be another SW MP 15 Sport II and a better shotgun for home defense.

I'll then probably work on building the 2 AR's and reevaluate where to go next

What do you see as "better" that the 870 can't provide?

maybe the 870 tactical, shorter barrel, larger magazine? I have two 870's, 20 and 12 gauge, but I bought the tactical anyways. It kicks like a rented mule with 2 3/4" shells, can't imagine using 3" in it...

Winchester 1300 is the best pump. Rotating bolt speed pump means it won't choke on you if you hold the forearm with any pull pressure (like it does on the 870/500's). More reliable.
Discontinued, so find one while you can. They have since shipped off the production overseas to Turkey and call it the SXP, basically.

Like the next poster says. I want something shorter and maybe more capacity. while fine for walking in a field and shooting birds, my 870 is really long and cumbersome for "inside". IMO

The fact that you wing shoot with your 870 means that you probably shoulder the shotgun and disengage the safety without much thought... so I would go with a different barrel, or another 870 set up for HD, but no reason to abandon the 870 platform.

Not to argue, but the Remington 870 has been in production since 1949 and is still produced today.... So, if the 1300 was the "best", wouldn't it still be in production? :D

I've never had an issue with an 870 choking due to pulling back on the forearm while shooting. And between hunting and shooting skeet, I've put thousands of shells through an 870...

I'm old , fat and not too bright. But it seems to me that the more guns you have for the SHTF, when the S actually does HTF you are going to be carrying a lot of guns with you when you try to bug out......... Jest sayin'
