You can buy it from wal-mart or a pet store for about $3 and change for about 10 pounds.... It is measured by volume so weight isn't exact...

If you can find a shop that sells industrial abrasives, they would have it. Might also check with a body shop.

I buy a 40 pound bag of 1/8" corn cob for $15.99 at my local lumber yard. The owner is a shooter and orders it in for reloaders. It's known as pet litter in some stores.

Hope this helps.

There is one thing about buying corn cob or walnut hull from pet stores or other sources...

It'll have bugs in it.

I found this out after seeing the bugs scurry out of the bag when I sat it out on the garage floor out of the car.

If you want to kill the bugs and eggs that you can't see there is a simple solution, but the Mrs. won't like it! :p

Nuke (microwave) or bake your media!

I have an old microwave that I have out in the garage for just the purpose...fill a bowl, turn on the microwave until the media is steaming very good, and viola- bug eggs are dead.

I have a friend that did this on a cookie sheet in his oven, but he said that media is highly flammable over 400 degrees...wonder how he found that out? ;)

Seal it well in a 5 gallon bucket after pre-treating it with polish if desired, and it's ready to use when you need it. :D

LOL, :D ha

I've never had bugs in over 20 bags of bulk corn cob. It could have something to do with where it's stored at the retailer where you've been buying it.

Hope this helps.

Feed mills

Anywhere that caters to farmers will have 1/8" corncob media. It's called chick bedding and in my area it sells in the $12 for 40lb range.
