My team had the range today and just for the hell of it we shot some old body armor. MUCH to my surprise, the 9 expanded to the same diameter as the .40

Here's what we shot:

9mm 124gr
.40 165gr
.45 230gr

All were factory hollowpoints w/ standard load. I'm not listing manafacturers in case there are any lawyers out there.

The .45 had the least expansion, but had the largest diameter (as you would expect). This was far from scientific, but thought you guys might want to rethink the 9. I did.

As a side note. My M&P 40c shot a tighter group than my Sig 229. You rule Smith. Now all my team members are trying to find out how to buy another gun w/o the wives finding out.

9mm is often underrated. It is just as effective at making holes in the bad guy as other calibers. I personally carry a 40 S&W, but wouldn't have any problem with a 9mm. For self-defense anything 9mm or bigger, in my opinion, is great. From there it is all about shot placement.

I carry a sw99 in 40 s&w and I have never shot a sweeter gun, now I am trying to convince the wife it's a matter of family security that a buy a compact version in 40.... still trying
