With this rash of senseless shootings is anyone bumping up to a bigger caliber? Going bigger than 380acp, 9 mm mak, 9 mm Luger ect? To a more powerful magnum round for concealed carry?

I carried a 44 mag for decades. I switched off and on to the 45acp and 357 often. Recently I have the cz82/9mm mak but I'm thinking of carrying a 357 or 41 as a main handgun. I'm good with either one. I been thinking about a backup handgun.

Anythoughts?

I have never relied upon anything less than 38 Special +P in revolvers or 9x19 Parabellum in pistols. Yes, shot placement is everything, but I like having more umph behind that shot placement than is afforded by 380 ACP, 32 ACP, etc.

Never gave it any thought. However, I do wear this every where I go....:D

I constantly oscillate between prioritizing reliability and quantity of ammo.

So I rotate between a 44 and/or 357 magnum revolver and a Hi Power loaded with 9mm +P+ and two extra mags depending on my current state of mind.

The more logical part of my mind pushes me to my revolvers. I shoot them at least as well as my auto, and with most of these incidents one or two well placed shots from a good guy would generate a happy ending.

Nope, but I recently upped my capacity when my Ruger LC9 died I replaced it with my P365. with 10 onboard and 12 more in a spare mag, I'm good with that.

I was forced to use my issued .38 to put bad guys down three times during my career, saving me or someone else. Don't get caught up in these silly caliber debates, carry the weapon you shoot best & put in regular range time.

Let me state this disclaimer before anyone jumps all over me. I like revolvers, and they've taught me how to shoot my semi-autos, just like how my M1903A3NM taught me how to be proficient with my service rifles! But with how the world is changing, I don't think that I could comfortably venture out with my revolvers, because I can reload a semi-auto both faster and easier than I can a revolver.

Yes, traditionally, a civilian gunfight used to occur over a few seconds time span with a few rounds expended within a few feet. However, the times they do appear to be changing! Just like Ivory Snow, 99.9%percent of us have yet to return fire while taking fire. Realistically, most of us have no clue how we will perform under fire until that time comes, but we do know how we want to perform!

Perhaps if GSSF or IDPA had a truly demented person developing a course of fire, they would create a stage where a tennis ball thrower would start launching tennis balls at the shooter's box at the start of the timer! What better way to safely test one's ability to accurately return fire when drawing fire?

For me, I think I'll carry a semi-auto (9mm, 40 S&W, or 45) with extra magazines before I would up the caliber! The important part is to carry what you shoot best.

You should carry and shoot what you shoot best loaded with the best proven ammo available. That said a back-up never hurts due to Murphy's Law. Colorado is one of the states that limits magazine capacity but in Colorado it is 15 rounds so there are several good 13 round mag .45 ACP autos like the Glock 21 and the Springfield XD .45 to name just a couple along with a slew of 9MMs. :)

These also come in 6 in Line and 8 in line models.

These can be fastened side by side inside a fanny pack for a lot of ammo carrying capacity and out of sight (your imagination and the size of the fanny pack is the limiting factor) or to your belt; if one is carrying a S&W 625 .45 ACP revolver. 4 carriers X12 rounds=48 total rounds, 5 carriers X 12 rounds =60 total rounds + 6 in the gun.

I wrote somewhere else that I left mouseguns behind when concealed carry came in. .38 Special J frames and 2" K frames, compact 9mm Parabellum pistols, and I used to carry a CS-45 but I prefer the 9mms.

Those are all that I need. Bigger caliber doesn't make up for shot placement.
