Just heard this on the news tonight, while driving through the town they are located in. Here is the local news story. Sad to hear that 73 more Mainers will be losing their jobs in the coming months.

Additional article on relocation of production.

The second article doesn't say where exactly the production will be moved to - just that it will be moved to some existing company location.

I'm not necessarily in the market for any of their rifles but if production moves anywhere outside the United States I'll never even consider them in the future. I suspect I'm not alone in that thinking either.

Consolidation. Bushmaster was bought by the same conglomerate (Cerebus) that bought Remington , DPMS , Marlin , NEF and probably a few others by now. They are closing the century old Marlin plant too.

S&W has recently also announced that it is closing the Thompson Center plant in Rochester and moving it to Springfield. I'm pleasantly surprised none of the arms companies have moved production to India or Vietnam.....yet.

Give them time.........

Why would a company move a facility from a location that has low taxes, highly qualified workers that are paid less than the national average and is stationed in a state that is "behind" their industry to a place that has high taxes, employees must be paid more, the culture and politics of that state hate your company, more complex regulations and licenses of all type and it costs your company more?

I don't see how it makes economic sense in the short, or long run at all.
