Not long ago, I posted a thread asking questions about possible red dot sights for my 617. After doing a lot of research and I mean a LOT, I lean toward a tube type sight for the type of shooting I want to do and for a number of other reasons as well. The Ultradot seems to be the gold standard and I like a lot of it's features. The downsides are:

1. It's quite a bit of money for something that I'm unsure I will even like.
2. It's heavy enough that adding much more weight to an already heavy revolver might change the balance in a negative way.
3. Although shooters rave about the quality of the Ultradot, some have had negative comments about them when trying to get a sight repaired or replaced.

Anyway, Based on research and reviews, I'm considering the Bushnell TR-25. Any thoughts?

I have Bushnell TRS-25s on a 617 and a 689. No complaints, clear as my ultradots but more compact. Takes a little practice to find the dot in fast draw shooting. But overall the TRS-25s are very good for the price.

I also had one on my Ruger 22/45. I first tried a Made in China red dot and it was just OK. Then I bought a TRS-25 and really liked it.

Took it off when I sold the 22/45 to buy my Shield 9mm.

Both red dots now sitting in my gun closet as none of my current guns can hold a red dot.

For the price, you can't go wrong with the TRS-25.

I've got the TRS-25 on two of my Ruger semi's and really like them, especially for the price.
Don't think you would regret buying it.

I have a TRS-25 on my 617 and for the price it's not a bad red dot. Only issue I have with it is the dot is definately not 3 mil. But the dot is bright and clear, a little too bright on low of the night though.

Not 3 MOA? It seems like I read another post where someone said the same thing. Can you elaborate?

l have not setup any test to measure the dot but compared to my other red dot sights I would guess it is between a 4 and a 5 mii dot.

TRS 25 is too small.. Hard to acquire a target quickly with one

Mine has been on several revolvers...Small small small

I've got a doc 3 and rmr on a couple of Glocks I'm very happy with and a TRS 25 on a Ruger 10/22 and mk II that work really well.

Value and mission wise I think you made a superb choice, hope it works out for you.

Some shooters have difficulty with a red dot mostly from an eye condition.

For this reason, they get returned to Amazon on a regular basis. Then they are resold as "used" for up to 50% off normal street price.

I have bought more than one of these this way, and couldn't be happier with any other red dot.

They are fantastic for stand hunting in deep woods where you lose iron sights in poor light.

Very good little optics for the money. Actually, way underpriced for what they do IMHO.
