Some people are just ignorant of the laws. One of our high school classmates moved to LA and invited my friend John to visit for a duck hunt. John mailed the gun he planned to use since he didn't have an airline approved gun case and didn't want to mess with the airlines hassle as he put it. He had no idea there was any issue doing this. There were no issues until he went to send it back to Ohio and the post office refused to take it. The following season I noticed he had a different gun on our first hunt. When I asked him about it he told me that he had to leave it in LA, since he couldn't mail it back. I know ignorance of the law is no excuse, but it happens. John is deceased now, but he was a good law abiding guy who just had no idea you couldn't mail a gun to someone. I agree about Armslist and I will only buy face to face locally. I am extremely cautious, but I have bought some nice guns for good prices using the list. Got a model 19, a nice nickel 27, and a couple of low production 3rd gen DA only semi autos. I have missed a few screaming deals, by not moving quickly enough as well. Use common sense and there are opportunities to be had. I like to look at the ads that have been up for a long period of time, contact them and see if they really want to move the item.
